Bringing in personal property / year 4 project

In class this afternoon we had a discussion about personal property, such as toys and special items. The children had some wonderful insights and we discussed this subject at length, giving every child the chance to share their view. We discussed that not everyone might have the same access to such luxury items and that toys can become damaged or lost if in school. We also considered whether this is something we will be doing at middle school.

The children voted and a majority vote in favour of NOT bringing in toys and precious items from home. This includes fidget toys, unless we have given your children an item for them to use. Please do not allow your children to bring in their own.

The class shared their view that there were not enough fun things to play with at breaks and so Mr Spracklen has agreed to give year 4 a budget to coordinate ordering new play equipment for the whole school. Year 4 will chat with children in the younger years and develop a list of items that the school could enjoy playing with (part of their home learning is to think about this).

Thank you, in advance, for supporting us in reinforcing these discussions at home. Please communicate with us if you have any other areas for discussion.

Kind regards,
The Year 4 team
