Year 4 - Our fabulous Mr D and Miss W - 28th June 2019

Image result for super teachersAs many of you know we have been fortunate enough to have our two student teachers - Mr Dickinson and Miss White working with us over the last school year.  We are so proud that they have now reached the end of their training and will be making their next steps as newly qualified teachers next year!  This Wednesday (3rd July) will mark their last official day with us, although they have promised to come in during the last few weeks of term to help out and will be with us on the last day of term - Tuesday 23rd July.  We would like to give our congratulations and thanks to Mr D and Miss W for being fantastic members of the team and wish them well for their future careers!

Year 4 - Wonderful Weather, Awesome Year 4 @Hooke - 29th June 2019

Image result for the class of 2019Year 4 have done nothing but impress us with their resilience, organisation and sense of fun.  The weather was certainly with us for out residential this year and the whole class made the most of the experience of being away from school and home for 3 days last week.  We were so proud of their ability to get stuck into things and have a go even if at first they weren't too sure!  They have learned lots about trying new things, working together rather than in competition and overcoming difficulties to be successful.
This year's year 4 are also record breakers - there was no left over clothes, shoes or belongings to bring back to school.  They managed to be responsible for their kit, keeping their rooms (relatively) tidy, with few exceptions (you know who you are).  We just hope the right things were in the right bags!
They have now earned their right of passage to year 5.  Be proud Year 4!
Don't forget to check out the pictures available to year 4 parent's now!

Year 4 - Leaving for our Residential - 24th June 2019

Image result for we're off on an adventureOn Wednesday we will be heading for our long awaited year 4 residential!  The children have been very excited today and we have started our diaries, thinking about the things we will be getting up to!  On Wednesday we would ask you to take your child's bags to the hall where we will begin loading them up ready for the off!  Please bring any medicine that your child will need for the trip where it will be collected by Mrs Thomas, Mrs Brooker and Mrs Long.  There will be a range of games available to the children on the playground whilst we are putting together our final preparations for the off!  We will not be leaving school until a little later (just like a school trip), so we would like to encourage you to say a quick, cheery goodbye (and of course a big three day hug) to your child in the hall or playground rather than wait to wave goodbye.  Miss Johnson and Mr MacBean will also be around if you need to ask any last minute questions or let us know any further information.  Please remember to pack lots of sun cream and a hat, the weather is in our favour!  Last but not least, don't worry if you haven't packed a single use camera, we will be taking lots of pictures whilst we are there and they will be made available to you in due course.
Can't wait for some fun in the sun Year 4!!!

Year 4 - Music for All Performance - 18th June 2019

As you already know, year 4 have had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument this term.  Mr Whitmarsh has been teaching the children to play percussion, specifically Samba!  We are pleased to announce that the class are nearly ready to perform their music to you.  Please put 1:30pm on 9th July in your diaries for the amazing debut performance of the year 4 Samba band 2019!  This will mark the beginning of our sports afternoon which you are also welcome to come and watch (and participate in - bring your running shoes for the parents race).  More details will follow regarding the sports afternoon.

Year 4 - Reading books - 18th June 2019

Image result for reading books
As we approach the end of the year reading remains a high focus.  We are lucky enough to have volunteers on a regular basis to support children with their reading, help them complete AR quizzes and talk to the children about what they have read.  Even though they are year 4, they are still expected to bring their reading books to school with them every day and take them home again every evening.  Ideally reading for at least 15 minutes a day at home as well as the reading they do in school.  It is incredibly difficult to get motivated and interested in books and stories if you are constantly starting a new book because you've left your book somewhere.  To encourage your child to become a resilient reader, who is motivated to want to read, please help them to remember their reading books!
Many Thanks
The Year 4 Team
