Science and literacy

Last week we embarked on a journey like no other............through the digestive system!!!!!!!! Right to the bitter end!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Following an exciting experiment and demonstration the children were challenged to write up the journey however they chose. They had to include scientific vocabulary as well as their literacy skills...............we had some outstanding independent creations!!!!!!!!! Well done Max, Erin, Isabelle, Amy, Rosie-Drew and Elise - I marked their stories and read them out much to the amusement of the class!!!

Today we continued our research about Florida ready to  feed into persuasive writing, persuading Mr. Farrington to let us go on a class trip there!!!!!!

Take note of any adverts - how do they persuade you to buy into them? What language, imagery, slogans do they use?

Biathle event!!!

What an exciting day we had today!!!!! A huge well done to Bea, Georgia, Jacob, Rocco, Stan and Fynn who represented the school in a schools biathle competition. As you know it was a little chilly this morning, well imagine running a total of 600m in your swimming costume, half of which was run wet having had to also swim 40m? It was a physically tough event, but the teams kept their cool and showed outstanding resilience and stamina to secure 2nd and 5th place medals!!!!!!!!! Super proud!!!!!! I even think some of them want to do more!!!! Wow!!! Great athletes, who also showed brilliant team work, cheering each other on, and even supporting DMS too!!!!

Well done!!!!
Thank you all for coming and taking part!!!! Thanks also to your parents for supporting us!!!!

Friday- Comic Relief

This Friday is Comic Relief. Just a quick reminder that we are asking the children to dress funny for money!

In assembly on Friday we will be sharing favourite jokes.  Also after school on Friday we will be having a cake sale. Each class will be baking and decorating cakes. However if you are baking this week or would like to donate some cakes for our sale please hand them to the children's class teacher on Friday.

All of the school have been learning the 2015 Comic Relief Song 'Put on a funny face'. It is a brilliant song and very catchy.

Book Off!!!!

World Book Day - Today we shared some favourite books - it's great to see so many of you keen to share your favourite genres - stories, comics, information books, annuals!
We began a "book off" challenge, where each group had 6 different areas of challenge - they had to complete one of each of the 6 book related activities! Very creative!!!! We will complete this tomorrow!

Keep up the reading!!!!

Mrs. Johnson

Raising the game - subordinate clauses!

Raising the game!!!!!!!

We continued learning about subordinate clauses this week, how they can appear either at the beginning of a sentence (fronted adverbial phrase), or in the middle or at the end of a sentence! I now expect EVERYONE to include them in their writing in order to raise the standard!!!!!!!!

Main clause = a part of a sentence that makes sense on its own. Subordinate clause (extra information) that doesn't make sense if read on its own. Depending on where the subordinate clause is, it will be either followed by a comma, comma before it or either side of it!

Remember = Mummy Clause - Suzy, subordinate clause = baby Alan, baby Arthur and baby Alfred (triplets)

Fractions!

Fractions are fun, fair and friendly! Introducing..........Super Numerator and Captain Denominator! We have been learning about equivalent fractions this week, how to recognise them in correspondence with shapes and also how to calculate equivalent fractions using our knowledge of times tables and corresponding divisions!

Home learning to follow!
