Thank you families and children of year 4

Hello everyone,

What a wonderful year we've had with a wonderful class. Year 4 have been such a special year group. They are so supportive and kind and have been a joy to teach. It is clear to see that the bonds that they have forged at POW will continue into middle school and to upper school and beyond.

Thank you for all your lovely gifts and cards - they are so thoughtful and appreciated by us all.

We hope you have a wonderful summer and wish the children all the best at their new schools. We hope you stay in touch. You and your children will always be a part of the POW family and we love to hear how you are getting on.

So much love and best wishes from,

Ms Browne, Mrs Hall, Mrs Thompson, Miss Street, Mrs Scott and Mrs Burgess. xxx

Hooke Court and what to bring for our final week

What a fantastic few days we had a Hooke Court! It was so wonderful spending time with the children in a relaxed and informal setting and watching them try new things and participate in team games and activities.
Hopefully the children have shared with you what we got up to. There was shelter building, a night search rescue, kayaking, orienteering, team games, singing around the campfire, a rocket workshop and rocket launching (these year's rocket were all very impressive).
The children slept really well (considering) and we didn't have any cases of homesickness, which was incredible.
We also had two special visitors whilst we were away: Miss Johnson came to see us on Thursday evening and Mr Spracklen dropped by on Friday morning.
Hooke Court was a real highlight of the year and I'm sure the children seemed older and a few inches taller on their return to POW.

This week:

Hopefully the children are now feeling well rested. Next week, as I'm sure you are aware it will be very hot. We will have a lighter timetable with maths and literacy based activities in the morning. Mr Spracklen would also like to re record ALL award speeches.

Monday - Non school uniform Day
Please could your child bring to school:
- sun hat, sunscreen and water bottle.

This week's home learning

The children have had a massive week, with sports day, two samba concerts and their transition day on Thursday. Next week promises to be even busier (and hotter).

With this in mind, year 4's home learning is:
  • Relax and enjoy the summer weather.
  • Think about and practise ways to relax (we discussed this in our PSHE lesson.
  • Pack for our residential on Wednesday. (The children came home with paper copies of the kit list which have previously been emailed to you).

I hope you and the children have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne and the year 4 team

Home Learning and next week

Home learning
For this week's home learning I would like the children to do the following:
  1. Complete their mixed maths worksheet.
  2. Do some research about a holiday they would like to go on if given the chance.
  3. Learn their spellings. Using the paper copy or going onto Spelling Shed.
  4. Practice their acceptance speech for the leavers assembly. Copies were sent home today. Filming of these starts next week and it would be great if children rehearsed these so that they can look into the camera and speak with expression.
  5. Think of what song they would like for their individual leavers assembly montage.

Next week
On Tuesday those children going to DMS will have a transition assembly with staff from DMS and former Prince of Wales students.

On Thursday all children will visit their next school. On this day year 4 children do not need to come to the Prince of Wales and should travel directly to and from their new schools. Your child's new school should have already been in touch to share start times and lunch provision.

High emotions
At this time of year, children in all year groups can find themselves feeling tired and emotional. This is especially true for year 4 who are also changing schools. Your child may have lots of questions and concerns and this is completely normal part of changing schools. If you feel that your child has worries beyond what may be expected or if you would like to discuss anything else please get in touch.
