Arrrrggghhhh! The Rotten Romans are in Year 4!

The Rotten Romans have landed!!!!!!! We were dramatically invaded yesterday morning and arrived to find a Roman Emperor and his loyal Roman subjects had ransacked the classroom searching for gold, silver, tin, wood, leather................

After undergoing some tasks set by the fierce Romans we discussed what invasion was, what it felt like and why they invaded? The children, having been thoroughly immersed in their learning about the Celts, were initially angry and very loyal to the Celts. However........................when we began to explore just what the Romans had brought to our country we began to get rather interested. We have embarked on a 3 week collaborative learning project. Each group has been assigned a specific area of the Romans to research, create and present to the class in what ever way they decide. We will be developing a lot of team work skills, using our learning powers and our existing literacy skills.

We also began learning a dance for our dance afternoon which we learned very quickly, requiring a lot of concentration!

Our Roman projects will continue to grow, alongside our learning about Australasia. We will be writing some Australian inspired poetry this week as well as working on our art too.

Thank you to everyone for coming in early this morning for our class and individual photos - I am sure they will be wonderful and a fond reminder of your time at The Prince of Wales!

The children were fantastic at swimming this morning and we are looking forward to showing you just how brilliant in our class swimming gala soon!

Please note: I will be postponing the Jigsaw parent information session that was scheduled for tomorrow morning. It will now be NEXT FRIDAY MORNING at the same time - thank you for your understanding.

If you have any questions, do come in and speak to myself or Mrs. Scott.

Year 4 - Jumpers and PE kits!!!!!!!

Jumpers and PE kits.......................

There are an awful lot of unclaimed school jumpers in our jumper dumper - please can you find time to come and have a look or remind Year 4 to take them home!

Over half the class did not have either their PE kits, or suitable foot wear for PE last week - please could ALL children have their full PE kit and trainers by Thursday. Equally, there are still some of the class who are not bringing a swimming hat and goggles, please ensure full swimming kit is worn on Wednesday - thank you!

Year 4 - Up, up and away!

The flight to Russia this morning was very smooth, we made good time! The in-flight entertainment with Mrs. Joy was very uplifting - great singing!
The continent that we are learning about in Year 4 is Australasia. We began our learning about Australia and found some fun facts as well as using the atlases to locate Australasia. We learned about the indigenous people of Australia and New Zealand and have started some Aboriginal and Maori inspired art as well as some art for our display next Thursday.

Important events/dates to remember:

THIS WEDNESDAY = CLASS PHOTOS - BE IN SCHOOL FOR 8:15 - we will have our photo before walking up to swimming.

This Friday = dance afternoon 2:30

Next Tuesday afternoon = KS2 Sports afternoon from 1:30

NEXT THURSDAY = FINALS OF THE YEAR 4 DASP SWIMMING GALA (the 5 children who qualified)

Next Thursday afternoon celebration of Global Fortnight in the school hall.

Next Friday = home clothes day + bring in a prize for the school fair.

Loom Band Fantastic - 14th June 2018

Indi-Rose in year 2 has thought of an exciting project which could raise lots of money for our Big Project.  Thinking big, Indi-Rose with the help of you, would like to create a Loom Band which stretches all of the way to Maiden Castle!  There will be a stall at our Summer Fair next weekend.  We need your help though.  If you have any loom bands gathering dust we could put them to a really good use!

The Year 4 Asgarda Tribe!

Celt Day was a HUUUUUUUGE success!

Here are some of the things that the "ASGARDA" tribe got up to, living like Celts before we joined Boudicca in a final battle against the Romans - of course we scared them brilliantly with our Tribal Dance!!!!!!!

If they would like to keep their Celt costume in school in a named carrier bag, we can continue our Celt adventure - simply because they loved it so much!!!!!!!

Thank you Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Seymour for keeping the fire burning!!!!!!

Year 4 - Final half term!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone! We hope you had a wonderful half term and enjoyed a restful break in the sun!?

Well, here we are in our final half term - where has this year gone?????????? It is a VERY busy half term too..........................

This Thursday we will be having a Celt Day - please come to school dressed as a celt - DO NOT GO OUT AND BUY A COSTUME FOR THIS...............a pair of leggings/tracksuit bottoms or tartan pyjamas, a plain top and an optional belt or blanket/towel used as a shawl will be absolutely fine!!!!!!!! Normal lunch on this day too! The children will be reminded of this tomorrow!

Coming up: Global fortnight, hopefully a trip to the Roman Town House, sleep overs, sports day, swimming gala, DASP swimming gala finals, transfer day and, of course, our Leavers Assembly.

I will be holding a JIGSAW parent information session on Thursday 21st June at 9am to share the content of the forthcoming SRE element of the scheme.

Thank you to all of you who supported our cake sale - we raised a huge amount of money and that was thanks to your team spirit and super baking!

This week we will be starting our Year 4 Tests which are carried out across DASP and are used alongside out teacher assessments to inform the middle schools. They are administered under test conditions but we ensure the children are calm, relaxed and happy with no pressure and plenty of breaks - I refer to it as their "show off" week where they get a chance to shine and show off how brilliant they are! If you have any questions, please just come and ask me. There is no need to do anything extra at home so please DON'T worry - keep everything as normal!
