Royal visit - arrangements 27/10/16

We have received slight changes on Thursday for the Royal visit. All children and parents from The Prince of Wales School now need to meet at the security tent which will be located at the top of Peverell Avenue East. Please be there for 10 -10.15am latest.  Mr Scott (Lexi’s dad) is going to be a representative for the school so please make yourself familiar to him when you arrive.

Mr Scott has kindly suggested that anyone wishing to park may do so at his business. This is Deane Computer Solutions, unit 6A middle Farm Way, Dorchester. DT1 3AR.

Many thanks to Mr Scott for helping with this organisation.

Year 4 Wednesday 19th October 2016

Thank you to all those of you I met during parents evening. It was lovely to finally get to meet all of you and discuss how well your child is doing!

I would like to continue with the "thank yous"............firstly to Mrs. Mistry Dyer for her fantastic afternoon last week learning all about Hindu worship - it was very vibrant and kinaesthetic! Secondly to Les, Isaac's grandad who came in and taught us many fascinating things about WW2, adding to our growing knowledge. Thirdly there have been several wonderful parents/grand parents who have volunteered to accompany us on our trips (the farm and the Nothe), without you offering to give up your time to come we would not be able to go on these trips - THANKYOU!!!!!! The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learned A LOT!!!!!!

Finally, thank you to all of you who were able to support the book fair, I am very much looking forward to buying more books for the library and guided reading!

We look forward to seeing you at our class assembly on Friday - 9:20am in the hall!

Thank you again for all your continued support, kind words and smily faces!!!!!!

Bling Your Bike - Friday 21st October

“Bling Your Bike Morning”

Yes that is “Bling”, although we would like you to “Bring” your bikes too!

This Friday 21st October we will be holding another “Bling Your Bike” event. This is to promote “Being Safe by Being Seen” when out on your bikes and scooters. We are having a competition to see who can make their bike or scooter extra colourful and bright ,- so that it really stands out!

The children may score extra marks for having bright, colourful clothing that they can put on when parading their “blinged”-bike.

Children who would like to take part in the competition should bring their bikes to school on the morning of Friday 21st October. Winners will be decided during the day and we have some nice prizes, kindly donated by Sustrans

It is important that any materials added to your bike or scooter should not be in the way of moving parts.

Whole school Monday 10th October 2016

Yippee! The Book Fair arrives this week - perfect timing for some christmas shopping!!!!!!The children will all be visiting the book fair with their class, and I am sure they will come home full of excitement about books they have seen, so do pop along and buy a book or two!!!
We really appreciate the support you show us each year at the book fair, not only encouraging your child's love of reading but, every time you buy a book, we earn commission in vouchers to buy new books for the school library and the guided reading library. Great isn't it?

We rely heavily on this source to maintain a high quality, up to date library full of the latest reads and best sellers! This ensures that ALL children in the school have access to a well stocked library to explore and foster a love for books!

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity!

Year 4 Monday 10th October 2016 - things to remember!

Just a few reminders..........

This Friday is the farm visit - Hazel popped by and said to wear OLD clothes as they may get dirty!

Next Tuesday is our visit to The Nothe - we can't wait and I am really looking forward to seeing your costumes (don't forget your gas mask boxes - a few have already come in!) Remember packed lunches and wear a warm coat as it is often cold when we are there!

Next Friday is our first Year 4 Class Assembly - we look forward to seeing you all at 9:20!

In the cloakroom are the sign up sheets for Parents Evenings next Monday and Tuesday - Monday = early, Tuesday = late! They are only 10 minute slots, which I try very hard to keep to time with to make it fair, it is a chance for us to meet and for me to introduce myself and discuss how your child has settled in so far and for you to fill me in on anything I need to know about your child. If you have other things you would like to discuss further, then please do arrange another time with me where we can talk for longer!

Phew, so much to remember!

There have been superb, creative pieces of home learning arriving - I cannot wait to see the rest and put them on display, do come along and admire the children's work in the corridor!

Spellings as usual next week - this week we are carrying out some assessments for spelling and reading that the children cannot learn for!

See you all tomorrow!

Harvest celebrations 7th October

Thank you to everyone who took part in The Prince of Wales Harvest celebrations yesterday. The children did a great job in presenting their songs, poems and art work to parents. Also the children have been busily cooking this week using our produce from the orchard, the goodies were sold in the café during the afternoon and they all went down a storm!

The harvest art work will be up next week so do please pop by the school hall to look at your child’s work if you were unable to come along.

The local food bank received two boxes of food from the school and it is looking like a good amount of money has been raised for the Kingfisher ward, who has asked the school to purchase some electrical equipment for children’s bedrooms.
We will keep you updated.

Year 4 Tuesday 4th October 2016 - Harvest week so far!

Yesterday we learned about fishing and sustainability with relation to our harvest and farm to fork week. We also developed our painting and pastel skills in creating an under the sea inspired picture - beautiful.

Today we had some visitors from India who taught us about harvest in Silvepura, we were also lucky enough to work on a whole school art project and to learn a harvest dance performed at festivals. We shared our dance and work in a finale at the end of the day.

All of this wonderful work , and more to come this week will be on display during the harvest assembly on Friday and at the cafe in the afternoon. The cafe is open for the children from 1:30 (they may bring about 30p to have a cake and drink), you are invited to come along to the cafe from 2:30pm - you may collect your child from Year 4 to join you in the cafe - they must be signed out from the class. The Year 4 children will be helping to serve and run the cafe in turns throughout the afternoon! We look forward to seeing you on Friday!

The children kindly offered to help hand out the letters on Friday afternoon, it seems that there were several left over/behind - if you did not get all of them then please pop in and see us - the most important ones were the home school agreement - this is very important and  we are collecting the reply slips in class, also a letter form DMS about and open morning.

Tomorrow we are going to be continuing with our creative skills, composing poems and more harvest art!

See you all for swimming!
