Thank you!

I'm sure you'll all agree that the Tea Dance on Friday was a great success - it was clear that a tremendous amount of effort had gone into the cakes - OUTSTANDING! I hope you had great fun baking together, decorating and using your maths skills!!!!! A HUGE thank you to all parents and family that came along and supported us - there were so many of you, it was fantastic............it was also great to see you all joining in with the dancing!

I think we can expect to see Mr. Farrington on the next Strictly Come Dancing!!!!!!!

I would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Mrs. Howell, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Creed for all their hard work keeping you all topped up with drinks and cakes as well as staying behind after school to tidy up (thank you also to Mr. Farrington for serving too).

The children were also incredibly helpful, helping me to set up the hall, and in tidying away all the tables and chairs (with a couple of extremely helpful parents) - Great teamwork all round!

We will be beginning a fortnight of rehearsals from tomorrow - any costumes that are ready, please start sending them in, named - thank you.

DT: please make sure you have everything in school by Wednesday (if you didn't have it last week).

Finally, next Thursday (10th December) we will be going on the Journey To The Stable at the United Church in South Street, so that we do not have to rush back for lunch, we will be taking out packed lunches with us. Just a note in advance should you need to cancel a hot dinner or haven't already booked!

See you all tomorrow!

This week and tomorrow!

A HUGE well done to all those of you who brought in their DT Make Do and Mend items ready to use on Wednesday - we all made a great start (although needed reminding that we had to stick to our plan!!!!) If you didn't bring in yours then please bring in asap ready to begin making!!!!!

Today, we put our numeracy skills into practise by selecting a game/puzzle which required us to use our prior learning - great fun!

In literacy we met the rest of the crab family - Bob and Dave!!!!! Ask about subordinate clauses - continuing from Suzie and baby Alan!!!!!!!!!

There has been great enthusiasm with relation to the Christmas performance, the singing was excellent today and many have learned their words already! I hope there are no issues with costumes - please see me if you have any questions! Keep up the practising!!!!

I can't wait to see your cakes tomorrow - don't forget to come to school wearing your WW2 outfit! Please join us from 2:30 in the hall for a cuppa, piece of cake and a dance to celebrate the end of the war!!!!!!!

Dust off your dancing shoes!!!!!!!

Homelearning

The children worked very hard last week on their writing and produced some wonderful pieces during the Big Write, which was a great success. The children enjoyed writing for an extended period in a relaxed, peaceful environment with quiet music paying and an interactive candle to use as a focus in times of thinking! They actually requested not to finish and wanted to continue the following day!!!!!!!!

You will see that in the home learning folder, as well as the usual spellings, there was a cake baking home learning to be decorated with the ww2 theme - these need to be brought in on FRIDAY for the Tea Dance. Have great fun baking and decorating together - what numeracy can you use? Also, on WEDNESDAY, they need to bring in the items they need for their make do and mend DT project.

Costume requests and scripts will be coming home on Tuesday - I hope there has been a lot of singing practise already!!!!!!!!

Sunday 15 November 2015

LOTS of information - please READ ME!!!!!!

I have a lot of thank yous to say today...........thank you to Mr. Scott who was our police officer on Tuesday, to Mr. Taylor who was our Judge on Thursday, to Mr. Gibson for being a very willing criminal and to all the adults in Year 4 who were suspects and questioned to within an inch of their lives!!!!!!!! A truly exciting week, learning all about our judicial system! Mr. Gibson was given 12 month suspended sentence and community service to provide all the staff in Year 4 with tea and biscuits daily!!!!!! :-)

Thank you too to Martha's Grandad and Great Grandad fro coming in on Wednesday to talk to us all about his experience during WW2 - its so valuable to be able to put our learning into context!
Thank you also to Mr. Ray last week who came in and challenged us to a quiz all about WW2 - a great opportunity to reflect upon our learning - Team England won!!!!!!

This week...............The children brought home maths home learning inter red folders on Friday, along with spellings!
On Tuesday we are off to the Tank Museum - thank you to all of you who offered to help, we only needed one adult so I  spoke to the volunteer last Friday. Children will need to bring their packed lunch, snack and drink in a small day bag as well as a coat.

On Wednesday we will be launching our first "Big Write", the children will bring home a sheet tomorrow night for them to discuss the task at home, they can record any exciting vocabulary you come up with and a few ideas. Big Write is a stimulating and inspiring activity carefully planned to enable the children to write independently in a tranquil atmosphere for an extended period of time, giving them the chance to apply all their writing skills that they have been working on - we will be starting the stimulus tomorrow where there will be a video clip and lots of opportunities to plan and discuss. the children are allowed to bring in a special pencil for the Big Write.

Next Friday (27th November) will be our Tea Dance - FYI the children will be set a home learning task for the weekend to make a cake or small cakes decorated with a ww2 theme. You are,of course, invited to come along and celebrate with us, have a cuppa and cake as well as a dance!

Exciting stuff - criminal activity............

Well, it certainly has been a VERY exciting themed week so far..........
Yesterday, we worked in partnership with Year 1 all morning and learned about Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppy - it was quite a moving session. We then used this learning, combined with learning about Japanese Haiku poems, to create our own Haiku poems - quite a challenge, just like doing a puzzle really.......ask the children about the structure of a Haiku poem! Good fun, Year 4 were brilliant role models for the Year 1 children.

Some of you may be aware that, this morning, we were greeted with rather a worrying situation......a crime had been committed involving our classroom!!!!!!
We were met by a police officer who carried out a preliminary investigation, there were many questions to be asked and lines of enquiry to be investigated, so the officer left us in order to process details and take some evidence and a finger print to be analysed. We were left to gather more evidence and build a picture of possible suspects, motives and to create some questions that we later asked the suspects. LOTS of thinking and reasoning skills involved, as well as deducing and inferring!!!!!!!!!

Following the questioning we were able to eliminate some members of staff, however as we were waiting to interview Mr. Gibson..............the police officer returned...........WITH MR. GIBSON...........IN HANDCUFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His house had been searched, and the finger print had been matched, Mr. Gibson tried very hard to evade our questions but tripped himself up on several occasions.................He was charged for the offence of breaking and entering and Wizardnapping!!!!!! Dumbledore was found in his cupboard along with our wand. Mr. Gibson was NOT very sorry and tried to escape on several occasions!!!!!!! His motive was to force Dumbledore to cast a spell that would make him in charge of the school!!!!!!!!!!!! He has been released on bail to appear at the Crown Court in Year 4 on Thursday 12th November...............................................

Upcoming items!

FYI...............

As part of our DT we are learning about Make Do and Mend. The children will be planning, designing and making a christmas decoration out of old items they will bring in from home - part of the brief will be that there will need to be an element of sewing in their piece. They will bring home details at the end of the week, ready to start next week.

I will endeavour to make decisions about casting for the christmas play by the end of the week so that you have plenty of time to organise costumes!

Thank you too to the 10+ volunteers who have our their names forward to help with our trip to Covington - so generous! As you know we already have a lot of adult support in our class and this trip does not require us to have a large quantity of helpers, however one or two will be useful, so to make it fair I will ask people from the list who have not been on a trip with the class yet. There will be more trips and opportunities over the year, so thank you again!!!!!!

Finally, we revisited our class charter this week as some of us needed reminding of appropriate behaviour and showing respect to ALL people they come into contact with as well as property belonging to other people. I would be grateful if you could also revisit this at home so that the children see how important it is and that we are all working together on these matters!

Thank you!

Mrs. Johnson and the Year 4 Team

Last week and this week!

Good evening,

Well, last week we had a very busy start and thank you to all those of you who were able to come to the consultation evenings!
We wrote some truly wonderful fireworks poems including such literary devices as personification, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile and alliteration!
Brilliant numeracy work as well working on written calculation strategies for subtraction.

This week is "Britishness week". Tomorrow we will be working with Year 1 collaboratively, based around Remembrance Day. We will also be learning all about the British Justice System this week .........watch this space!!!!!!!!

On Friday we are dressing up for Children in Need, children are to wear their home clothes but to incorporate some element of the Union Jack into their outfit, bringing in a donation for the collection too. There will be a cake sale after school on that day and, from Thursday, Year 4 Children's voice reps will be selling Children in Need merchandise.

This week there will be a certain "buzz" in the air as I will be holding auditions for the Christmas performance............exciting stuff!!!!!

See you all tomorrow!

Children in Need 2015

Children in Need is fast approaching. You should have all received a letter today explaining about Friday (13th).

The Children's Voice will be selling Children in Need merchandise from Monday in the area outside Year 1.

On Friday our dress up theme is 'Britishness'  (maybe they could dress up in the colours of our flag or famous British person)

Just like the country file team all children and staff at The Prince of Wales School will be partaking in a 1 mile ramble around our school grounds.

After school on Friday we will be having a cake sale. We would love to have lots of cakes (whole and cupcakes) and biscuits to sell. Please give all the cakes to your class teacher to store in the morning.

To let you all know that a super amount of £350 pounds has been raised! This will be sent to UNICEF to buy water kits as the children requested.

Many, many thanks to everyone for the generosity towards such a needy cause.

Christmas, here we come!!!!!!

Good evening everyone!

I hope you all had a great half term and are rested and full of energy ready for one of my most favourite times of the year..........Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (We will start thinking about the Christmas show during this week and discuss auditions so don't panic just yet!!!!)

We will be using our spellings from 2 weeks ago to practise/learn this week and don't forget your times tables - some are on 6's and some 7's!!!!!!!

Get ready for the next few weeks, there are a lot of exciting events, activities and learning opportunities lined up - keep your eyes peeled for events that parents can come along to as well!!!!!

Running club will start again NEXT week. For PE please can children have a warm tracksuit and trainers in their PE bags as we will still be doing games outside as long as it isn't wet!

Swimming as usual this week. Those of you, you know who you are, that are taking part in the rugby festival, don't forget that that is this Wednesday.

Thank you to all the children who accessed e-schools to ind their home learning - some have managed to e-mail attachments to me, which is great as I can reply with your feedback, but if you have a hard copy that is fine too!

I look forward to meeting all your mums and dads at parents evenings this week!
