It's that time of the week again............Friday 29th January 2016

Its that time of the week again..........where does the time go?
Praise assembly...........................Well done to Oakley and Sophie for excellent independent handwriting - super progress since September! Fantastic conscientious work in numeracy from Charlotte, meeting and exceeding expectations. Amazing newspaper articles form Elian and Coco - they could actually be potential journalists and finally brilliant Macbeth raps by Jay and Megan - inspiring work this week achieving a high standard - watch this space for next week!

A HUGE well done too for all the home learning that came in - wow! Super effort and I hope you enjoyed doing it with various family members! Do pop down the corridor in the main part of the school to have a look and to catch up on the news! (There have been some terrible events in Scotland!!!!!)

As stated on the home learning this week, I have requested that EVERYONE completes the tasks set for them on Mathletics - it really is a VERY beneficial programme! This will be a WEEKLY EXPECTATION! An advance "well done" to all those who are already doing it (approx 7!!!) Certificates are on their way - it really does pay off, I can see a difference in your mental maths, your speed and confidence too.

I hope the footballers are now warmed up from the tournament this morning - lots of smily, muddy children returned after enduring the windy, cold couple of hours with a 4-0 victory in the final game! Great job team!!!!!

Thank you to those of you who have entered the novice biathlon and I know there are a few of you swimming in a gala tomorrow night, so LOTS of luck!!!!!!!

HAPPY WEEK-END EVERYONE!

Old Wellington Boots?

We have another plan afoot!  Have you got any old, outgrown or holey wellies at home?  If so we would like to use them for a project in Eco Week.  Please bring in your old wellies to year 2 to be up-cycled!

Reading Targets - Wednesday 27th Jan 2016

All I can say is, ask the children about rapping.................they will fill you in on the rest!!!!!! Excellent literacy! Well done year 4!

It was lovely to see such super team work in our collaborative learning project in RE, everyone supported each other and used each others skills and strengths.

In French we were learning how to say what we like/dislike to eat and drink in preparation for our cafe! We were also using dictionary skills too - well done!

In numeracy we were carrying out some cross curricular data handling with our science teeth topic.

Finally, during guided reading last week and this, I have added a new reading target into their diaries. These are targets which relate to each child's stage of learning in reading with relation to the national curriculum and our assessment tools. They have been chosen because they are targets that can be referred to at home when they are reading with you as well as in school and are designed to be met over approximately half a term. If you, your child or ourselves think that they have demonstrated the target then please tick the sticker, once there are 5 ticks I will sign it off and select a new target. The purpose of having a target, which we also have in other areas of the curriculum, is so that children know what it is they may need to do to help them improve with more of an achievable focus and they are also then encourage to take ownership of their learning and progress. Please do communicate through he home learning diary because this also encourages the children to use them in preparation for next year!

I look forward to seeing you at the parents consultation evening - the sign up sheet is in the cloakroom if you have not already signed up!

Used CDs

I am after used CDs which we can paint and stick onto for an Eco school activity. If you have any old CDs you are willing to hand over, please bring them to the school office or find me in Year 2 classroom.

Many thanks!           Mrs Mewett

Minions of work!

It was lovely to praise Finley for super numeracy this week - excellent focus and independent work, Genevieve's painting is looking very vibrant - well done, Freddie bravely attempted and conquered a cartwheel along a bench in gym - well done, Jack M impressed us with his clear knowledge of all the song words for our concert, as well as the effort he put into singing this week, Dolly has succeeded in persevering with her reading and is now reading independently at home for half an hour before bed - super stuff, I am also proud to announce that Alfie M set himself a challenge to swim 50m on Wednesday............and he did it (great determination!) Alfie N and Finley joined him too - well done boys!!!!!!!

Hot off the press today are our Macbeth newspaper reports! They look fantastic - keep your eyes peeled for these on display!

I look forward to seeing more home learning on Monday ready for the display!

Our Macbeth newspapers are coming on nicely and I have been super impressed at the home learning arriving on my desk!!!!!!

Praise!

We had praise assembly today and I am pleased to be able to say particular well done to................Alfie and Alfie for swimming 25m of the big pool on Wednesday! Callum for excellent swimming and persevering with it. Charlotte for the effort she puts into her writing and the standard she is achieving because of this effort. Martha for super numeracy this week, especially as she has been off poorly, but she didn't let it stop her, catching up and more!!!!! Jack for his resilience in numeracy this week, proving to himself that he could do it!!!!!! Tahlia for her resilient attitude with her daily keyboard skills practice, it is now paying off and her speed, accuracy and self confidence are soaring! Alex for his positive attitude to learning - a super example to everyone! Well done everyone!!!!!!!

Thank you to all those of you who were able to come to the parent's information session yesterday!

This week we have begun learning about the genre of newspaper writing/journalistic writing - some super headlines! A few budding/potential journalists in the class!
In numeracy we have been looking at place value and understanding what happens when we multiply by 10, 100, 1000 etc
In guided reading we are reading James and the Giant Peach a few chapters at a time. The children should be bringing home their new reading journals which they can cover. they also have new spellings and x tables to learn for home learning!

Have a great week end!

More crime!

Well, I'm sure you have heard rumours and whispers about a terrible crime that we uncovered last week................murder!!!!!!!!!! We were asked to investigate the death of King Duncan and explored the crime scene, identifying witnesses and possible suspects, also using our inference and deduction skills to help us and to give reasons for our thoughts! We listened to the story of Macbeth and saw if our predictions were correct. In order to fully understand the story and the characters we continued the week and into this week with drama, acting out and freeze framing the story as it unfolded! We were ALL sooo excited and motivated - there were some excellent facial expressions and body language showing the empathy with the characters - brilliant! It has been great seeing the children inspired by Shakespeare! I look forward to seeing what creative things appear for the home learning project set last Friday!

There are some wonderful abstract watercolour pieces being produced and our singing practice for the concert was very successful - keep singing!

Keep practising those spellings and times tables for this Friday!

It was lovely to hear that Rosa has done very well at her Horse Riding and just before christmas took an exam, passing with flying colours - she is heading confidently towards the next level very soon! Well done! Charlotte returned from Australia to discover that she had passed her piano and dance exams both with distinctions - super news, well done Charlotte - we are eagerly waiting to hear how you got on in your drama exams!
If there are any more results or achievements please let me know!

I look forward to seeing those of you that can make it to the parents information session tomorrow morning!
