Year 4 Wednesday 28th February 2018

Thank you to all of you that braved the cold and suffered sitting in the cold cloak room to wait for your parent consultation time. I enjoyed meeting you all and discussing your wonderful children - what a super class!

If you were unable to make an appointment, please call in and arrange a different time!

FYI: reminders,

  • A letter came home today with regards to Hooke Court
  • A repeat of the concert letter for those who have not returned the reply slip - concert NEXT WEDNESDAY drop off 9:20 at St Osmunds Sports hall and again at 6pm in the evening ready for a 6:30 start!
  • World Book Day is tomorrow - the children have been asked to bring in 2 books, 1 to share with their buddy and one to recommend to the class.
  • Friday = Bedtime story hour 6-7pm in the main school, come in your pjs with your dressing gown and teddy, enjoy a hot chocolate and a story.
APOLOGIES : YEAR 4 CLASS ASSEMBLY IS NEXT FRIDAY, 9TH MARCH 9:20AM.  I think there may have been a mix up with dates!!!!!!!

  • After the assembly, in the afternoon next Friday we will be visiting DMS for an orienteering lesson with Mr. Treble.
We have been enjoying applying our area and perimeter learning by becoming Zoo Keepers responsible for designing a new enclosure for a given animal. The children had to measure out their animal outside in order to plan the size and shape of their enclosure. They selected the equipment they would need to carry this out and then have begun to draw scaled down versions of their designs.

In Literacy we explored the picture book Flotsam by David Weisner, which has sparked incredible imaginations and we are currently planning the story to go with it!

A very busy few weeks already!

Thank you for all your positivity, kind words and support expressed during the consultations.

A message from World Book Day and activities to do if you are snowed in!

World Book Day - Don't let the weather get you down!
We are aware that there have been school and nursery closures due to the inclement weather conditions across the country and expect these to continue tomorrow, on World Book Day. We’re so pleased that children and young people are looking forward to going to schools and nurseries to celebrate World Book Day but strongly encourage everyone to be safe and practical as they make decisions regarding changing plans.

World Book Day is about encouraging children and young people to read and love books and, whatever the weather, 15 million £1 book tokens are already with schools and nurseries across the UK and Ireland. We will be extending the token redemption period beyond 25 March to ensure that everyone is able to use them so please do distribute them when you can. The extension period will be confirmed depending on the weather in the coming days.

We know a great deal of teachers, nursery staff, parents, children and young people will have put effort into activities for tomorrow. We’re encouraging schools, nurseries and families to Share A Story and celebrate World Book Day as and when they can, in whatever way they can, so that children can celebrate reading, share stories with their teachers, families and peers, and so time and effort spent on costumes and activities does not go to waste.

In the meantime, if you find yourself snowed in tomorrow, go ahead and celebrate World Book Day anyway, dress up if you’d like to, but most importantly, find time in the day to share a story, to read, to enjoy books. Here are some fun ways you and the children and young people in your school or setting can still join in and Share A Story at home:

For lots more fun activities, visit www.worldbookday.com/ideas/share-a-story/

You can participate on social media with #shareastory. We look forward to hearing how you're celebrating.
Happy reading and story sharing!

Good evening everyone,

Thank you for the replies that have been sent in with regards to the extra PE activities, however there are only 4 places available and unfortunately the letters were sent out to everyone - please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. The 4 children will be notified tomorrow!

We have a VERY busy few weeks ahead of us, please do sign up for parent consultation evenings taking place NEXT Tuesday and Wednesday, the forms are in the cloakroom!

NEXT Thursday is World Book Day when the children may come in to school dressed as a character from a book and we will be celebrating during the day, as well as the Bedtime Story Hour being held on the Friday evening in collaboration with Pre-School. This was really fun and well supported last year, so successful that we decided to open it up to the whole school! Come along in your pjs with a teddy and enjoy a story and hot chocolate.

Year 4 DASP singing concert information

Below is a copy of the letter that will be sent home tomorrow. It is regarding the Year 4 DASP concert and all the logistics. Please support us in this event and come along to represent the school, we have been working hard to learn the songs and it will be wonderful.

Dear Parents,

Year 4 children are taking part in the DASP Choral Festival with other first schools from DASP on Wednesday 7th March. Please can you drop your child at St. Osmunds Sports Hall for 9:20am where PoW staff will meet them. We will be walking back to school in time for lunch.

For the evening, the children need to be at St Osmund’s Middle School Sports Hall in Dorchester at 6pm (the doors to the performance space will not open before 6 pm). The performance will then start at 6.30pm and will last around 1 hour.  Please be considerate when parking near St Osmund’s so as not to cause too much disruption for the local residents.

Entrance to the performance is free.  There will be a retiring collection to raise funds for DASP Music (registered charity 1162919).  This money is then used by the DASP schools for musical projects such as this in the future.

For the evening, children will need to wear their school uniform.

The children can access the songs that they need to learn for the concert by following this link:

Please sign the permission slip below to confirm that they will be attending the evening performance where they will be representing The Prince of Wales School.

Many thanks.
