Flotsam!

Year 4 - you should be very proud of yourselves - ONCE AGAIN! I know I was super proud of you and your amazing assembly. Not only did you show your creative thinking skills putting together short, amusing sketches illustrating your learning, I think you all demonstrated how confident you have all become! Brilliant!!!! You brought a tear to my eye - also by making me laugh so much!!!!!!

Amazing home learning is flooding in! I love the way you have all interpreted the project in your chosen and preferred way - also inspiring to the other children in the school as they marvel at them in the corridor - well done one and all (family members that have joined in the fun and learning too!)

Reminder to brass players to bring in your instruments tomorrow - Mr. Minhinnick was very impressed with you all.

Tomorrow a note will be coming home about a Science/DT/Numeracy project we are returning to (after the madness of Christmas and everything leading up to it), in groups the children had been researching about different dietary needs - each group will then be planning a pizza  that is suitable for their given group, they will then have to cost it out using the Tescoes website. We then intend to go shopping next Tuesday for the ingredients and, later, returning to school to make them. The note will be requesting £2 to brought into the office in a named envelope so that each group will have a budget to keep to. On arrival at Tescoes we will be splitting off into our groups to do our shopping, so we do need 2-3 volunteers to accompany us and be with a group around the store! We should be back in plenty of time for lunch - If anyone would like to stay on and help with the cooking int he afternoon, then please feel welcome! Let me know if you think you would like to come along and help!

PE: In the newsletter I requested that children bring in tracksuit bottoms or leggings and trainers to keep in their PE bags, as we like to go outside for PE if it isn't raining, and it is very nippy at the moment!!!!

Learning: The children are int he middle of a piece of extended writing, creating the story to accompany an amazing picture book "Flotsam". Keep your eyes peeled on the corridor display - they will be added shortly (they really are fantastic!) We have also been exploring fractions - recognising and calculating equivalent fractions, finding fractions of a number, mixed and improper fractions and later on this week, ordering fractions - I will be sending home an information sheet on these with some to have a go at at home this Friday!
Keep up the hard work Year 4 - you're doing brilliantly! :-)

Thank you!

Hi there,

I want to say a huge thank you to the mums that came to the maths session this morning - and to the couple of you who sent your apologies! I hope you found it useful? It was just like a cosy 1:1 maths tuition session with just 5 of us - thank you for your support! I hope more of you can make it in the future as I think it is really valuable for the children! Again, the DASP calculation booklet "Make your child a maths star" can be found under pupil links, Year 4, Maths block A, DASP.

More thanks goes out to George's Dad, who is jetting off to Florida and popped in to ask if we would like anything, linked to our topic..........the children have written letters, and I believe they will be given to a school there!? We will keep our fingers crossed hoping that they will reply - it would be great to have another link school.........that would mean we will have two pen-pals - one from Uganda and one from Florida! (We could learn so much about life across the other side of the world!)
Lots of effort was put into spellings this week, with the majority of children doing VERY well! Well done!

A small home learning task will be coming home tomorrow, to be in for next Friday - it is a book review!

A reminder that it is our class assembly next Friday at 9:20 in the hall - hope to see you there - a treat is in store!!!!

Thank you!

The Year 4 Team!

Home Learning reminder!

Just a note to say that ALL children were given their home learning 3 week project, along with this weeks spellings, on Friday. The Home learning project is to be in BY FRIDAY 31st January 2014, allowing plenty of time to think, plan, do, enjoy and learn!

Also, please continue to read every day - and bring in a book to recommend to the class!

A reminder that it is the Year 4 maths session this Thursday from 9 - 10:30.

Class assembly is the following Friday, 24th January at 9:20.

Children doing brass lessons will not be starting their lessons until NEXT week.

Don't forget that there are extra numeracy activity sheets in our cloakroom to take as and when.

Thanks,

Year 4 Team

Happy New Year

Happy New (wet!) Year to everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing yet fun filled holiday? Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Brown and myself would like to say a huge "Thankyou," to all of you for your lovely cards and presents - too generous!!!! :-) (I also hope you ate all your sprouts - I had to!!!!)

The children have all kicked off  2014 with a bang! Great enthusiasm, focus and attitude for learning as we launch into all sorts of new things - topics, trips - residential (information to follow shortly), preparing for new schools...........we all made new years resolutions today (adults included)!!!!!!

A reminder that the 6 children continuing with Brass lessons need to bring in their instruments tomorrow for your lesson with Mr. Minhinnick at 1:00 - 1:30pm.

Next Thursday, from 9:00-10:30, I will be holding a maths workshop in the school hall where the focus will be on calculation strategies, how we teach it and the progression. I aim to demonstrate the strategies, then give you a chance to have a go yourselves followed by any questions you may have, and finally directing you to the DASP calculation booklet so that you will have a copy at home to refer to! I do hope you will be able to come because I am sure it will be really valuable for you to be able to help your children when they talk about their learning at home! (I promise to give you a brain break - and maybe a cuppa and biscuits!!!!!! :-))

See you soon!

Mrs. Johnson and the Year 4 Team
