Year 4 the budding art critics

Welcome back to Spring term 2 everyone,

Another action packed week at the Prince of Wales School, where the children celebrated World Book Day; went inside an inflatable planetarium and started their collaborative food project with Reception.

Personally my favourite activity was our art lesson on Friday afternoon where I introduced the children to still life and we discussed different still life artworks. The children really impressed me with their thoughts and theories including the possibility that Cezanne's early work was sad and dark because he felt sad and his father wasn't supportive of his work, whereas later he was happier and more confident. The children also started commenting and developing their preferences on the styles and techniques used by different artists.

This week's home learning is to draw or paint their own still life and to practice their spellings.

Coming up next week we will be visiting the Mars installation at the corn exchange and will work with Geoff the composer again as part of our songlines project. The children will also continue to work with reception on Wednesday afternoon. I will let children know and message parents on Monday as to which group will need their forest school / gardening clothes on Wednesday.

Our class assembly will be on Thursday 24th March. This will be the postponed maths assembly from November and so the children will take on their previous roles. I will send home their lines next week to start reading over and a request for any costume clothes you may have for those children as characters.

As ever, if you have any questions or comments please either email me or talk to me or a member of the team.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne & the Year 4 team. xx
