BBC Micro:Bit

This half-term, our Year Four pupils are diving into the world of coding and digital technology as we launch our brand-new Computing unit using the BBC Micro:Bit!

The BBC Micro:Bit is a brilliant, pocket-sized programmable computer designed to introduce children to the world of computer science in a fun and engaging way. It features an LED display, buttons, sensors, and Bluetooth – giving children the tools to build games, create animations, measure data, and much more.

Each child has now received their very own BBC Micro:Bit Home Learning Pack, which includes:

🧠 BBC Micro:Bit (Version 2)
🔋 Battery Pack and 2 x AAA Batteries
🔌 USB Cable
📘 Safety Guide
📗 Getting Started Guide

We’re thrilled to be able to offer pupils the opportunity to explore them both in school and at home.

👉 Please make sure the full pack is returned to school every Monday for our Computing lessons. All packs will be collected at the end of this half-term so they can be used by other pupils across Key Stage 2.

In class this week, we watched a fantastic introduction video to the BBC Micro:Bit, which we’d also encourage families to watch together at home:

This is a great chance for children to share what they’ve learned and get creative beyond the classroom!

If you have any questions about the Micro:Bit project or your child’s learning, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Spracklen directly via email at: headteacher@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk

Let the coding adventures begin! 💻✨
