Home Learning for Year 4 and assembly clothes

Hello everyone,

I hope you have had a good week and are enjoying the warmer weather.
This week in year 4, we've thought about the importance of our teeth; multiplied numbers using written methods;  considered where our food comes from and we have looked at maps and compared the countries England and Brazil.

Home Learning
For this week's home learning I am asking the children to do some more research and compare two more countries.

Here is a link to a copy of the sheet the children came home with, although they can present their country comparisons how they would like.

The children also have spellings to learn. They should have a hard copy in their bags but their spellings for this week and the year can be accessed via Ed Shed. Here is a copy of the spellings should they have not made it home.

Our class assembly
Our class assembly will be on Thursday 24th March. The topic will be on mathematics to coincide with maths day (the day before). All children should come in school uniform and will get changed in school only if they are a specific character.
We are looking for a few costume items that are needed for the roles and so if anyone has any pieces of costume for the following roles it would be appreciated.

Costumes for:
Albert Einstein (TP) - Just round glasses needed.
An American cowboy type figure (CP)
Florence Nightingale / nurse (OP)
A Scottish man with a beard (CW)
Katherine Johnson (JHo) - I think JHo has this costume
Rachel Riley (HB) - I think HB has this costume
Astronauts (RD & FF)
A rockstar (AS)

As the weather warms, please could I ask that parents ensure that jumpers and cardigans are labeled.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Ms Browne & the year 4 team.

Food Glorious Food

Firstly, an enormous thank you to everyone that sent in foods for our class reward feast. The foods sent in exceeded all our expectations and the children had a wonderful time trying new foods and clearly enjoying some firm favourites.

We will continue our food topic next week, with the children writing their non chronological texts about where our food comes from. They will also take part in our collaborative project with Reception, learn about the role of teeth in the digestive system and look at the food art of Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Towards the end of the week we will also consider the differences between the UK and Brazil in terms of climate, land types and food production.

There were no spellings this week but children are encouraged to learn this year's spellings via Spelling shed if they are able to. The class were also sent a worksheet home that had some multiplication questions, time questions and the children were asked to make some word contractions and find foods from the UK and overseas. Should your child not have brought the worksheet home a link can be found here

As ever, if you have any questions, concerns or comments please email or get in touch with myself or a member of the team.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne & the Year 4 team. xx

Class reward - a feast fit for year 4!

To celebrate year 4 collecting all their class rewards and generally being amazing, we will be holding a class feast on Friday afternoon. This fits perfectly with our food topic this term and I'd like to give children the chance to try new foods and enjoy well loved foods.

If parents and carers are able to bring any foods in for tomorrow please either write it up on the notice board at school drop off or add it to your parent social media group by 4.30pm. I will be going shopping this evening for feast items so no one should feel any obligation to send anything in, especially as I appreciate it is very short notice.

Kind regards,

Ms Browne & the year 4 team.

Year 4 the budding art critics

Welcome back to Spring term 2 everyone,

Another action packed week at the Prince of Wales School, where the children celebrated World Book Day; went inside an inflatable planetarium and started their collaborative food project with Reception.

Personally my favourite activity was our art lesson on Friday afternoon where I introduced the children to still life and we discussed different still life artworks. The children really impressed me with their thoughts and theories including the possibility that Cezanne's early work was sad and dark because he felt sad and his father wasn't supportive of his work, whereas later he was happier and more confident. The children also started commenting and developing their preferences on the styles and techniques used by different artists.

This week's home learning is to draw or paint their own still life and to practice their spellings.

Coming up next week we will be visiting the Mars installation at the corn exchange and will work with Geoff the composer again as part of our songlines project. The children will also continue to work with reception on Wednesday afternoon. I will let children know and message parents on Monday as to which group will need their forest school / gardening clothes on Wednesday.

Our class assembly will be on Thursday 24th March. This will be the postponed maths assembly from November and so the children will take on their previous roles. I will send home their lines next week to start reading over and a request for any costume clothes you may have for those children as characters.

As ever, if you have any questions or comments please either email me or talk to me or a member of the team.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne & the Year 4 team. xx
