Mostly music!

The Prince of Wales Musical Soiree

If your child has been learning an instrument for a while (not a beginner) or is a member of choir then you should have received a letter to invite you to watch them and their peers perform in the annual school concert. This takes place on Weds 10th June in the school hall at 6pm. We are allocating adult tickets, two per family. If you wish for an extra seat then please let the office know you wish for extra and we will hand out the week before the concert. Thanks!

Beginners – Assembly on Monday22nd June at 10.10am

If your child has begun learning an instrument this year then this assembly is for you! Again, hopefully you will have received a letter to invite you. No seat limitations!  These groups include Reception beginner recorder group, Mr Farrington’s Yr 1 recorder group, Miss Johnson’s recorder group, Mrs Thorpe’s beginner uke group and hopefully the Yr 4 children who have started to learn the clarinet this year.  Please join us if you can; will be lovely for the children to get the support from you and their class mates.

Celt Day

We had a very successful Celt Day today, with glorious weather to match. We began the day by setting up our settlement/hillfort, going about daily life..........milking cows, chopping wood, collecting eggs, iron work, cooking etc suddenly, a Roman messenger ran into the fort telling us the terrible news that an enemy, by the name of Boudicca, was nearing our tribe.........what were we to do? Was this a red herring? We discussed strategies incase she should arrive and went about our daily duties, weaving, cooking bread over the fire and making jewellery, all the while keeping a look out for Boudicca. After lunch, we learned more about the Iceni Queen and decided that the Roman messenger was sent to try to turn us against her! We chose to wait for her arrival.........meanwhile, more weaving, building our own shelters and carving claves and making beads. as we neared the end of our Celtic experience we received news from Boudicca that the Romans had made her life very difficult and she was no longer willing to put up with this, so she recruited out tribe into her army and we marched off to seek out the Romans - a battle ensued, however the Romans had better weapons and battle plans - we were defeated!!!!!!!! Could we continue to live alongside the Romans.......?

Relationships and Sex Education Parent Information Sessions

We are holding parent information sessions for each class to explain our approach to Relationships and Sex Education as follows:

Monday 1st June                              Reception
Tuesday 2nd June                            Year 1
Wednesday 3rd June                        Year 2
Thursday 4th June                            Year 4
Friday 5th June                                 Year 3

As usual these will be held in the school hall from 9.00 until 9.30.

These sessions are designed to explain how the Jigsaw scheme of work that we are using in common with most other DASP First schools introduces Relationships and Sex education in an age appropriate, progressive way in a short series of lessons within the unit of work called "Changing Me".

Information about this is coming home via a newsletter but we hope these extra parent information sessions will be helpful in explaining the school's approach which has been approved by the governing body.

POWSA Summer Fair Saturday 6th June

At POWSA Towers we've been working hard to prepare for the Summer Fair. On Saturday 6th June we have the annual inter - school football & netball tournaments and running alongside these the chance for you to all enjoy yourselves, have fun and support the school. There will be games to play, candyfloss, burgers and juices to keep you going as well as the chance to cheer on the teams from years 3 & 4. There will be competitions: colouring, scone baking and a Minecraft challenge!

We have already received some initial donations of crockery and will welcome any more donations that you can spare. Please don't donate anything that might make an appearance on Antiques Roadshow but if you have any plates or bowls that are old, chipped or just unloved we will put them to a smashing new use.

There is a sign up sheet at the schools reception, if you can spare some time to help us on the day, be it flipping burgers on the BBQ (we'll supply the apron) or running a game for an hour please let us know, your help and support is greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you there, the football  & netball kick off at 11am

A Fairthorne post from Mr F.

A quick blog to say how much we all enjoyed taking the Year 4 children away to Fairthorne Manor last week. Everyone had a brilliant time and the children participated with great enthusiasm, good humour and super co-operation. I hope the children have been able to tell parents all about their adventures!

No running club this week/Fairthorne

I hope you are all feeling fully rested after such a fun-packed, busy residential trip? It was a fantastic trip with many exciting experiences! ALL children on the trip overcame fears and barriers and achieved things they never thought they could!!!! Super brave class!!!!!! We played games in the dark as well as exploring the woods at night!!!! There was a colossal football match against a primary school from Bristol (approx 40 children playing!!!!!!), new songs learned around the campfire, abseiling, raft building, kayaking, orienteering, zip-wiring, pond dipping, archery, crate challenge.

The children shared their rooms brilliantly, looking after each other and working as a team to keep them tidy!!!! This class was outstanding at bedtimes with EVERY child going straight to sleep and sleeping soundly through the night!!!! Amazing!!!!!
There were quite a few items left behind so they will be outside the classroom at the end of the day to be claimed!!!!!

I hope you all feel very proud of yourselves and your achievements last week - we will be spending this weeks literacy based around the trip and photos will be on display by the end of the week for parents to come and see!!!!!! Lots of valuable memories created to treasure forever!!!!! Well done!!!!

There will be no running club tomorrow, however I will run one in the last week of this half term and for any children taking part in the Schools Biathle in 2 weeks time, I will run an extra training session next week.

Don't forget Mrs. Seymour and Mrs. Bishop's parent information session on Thursday at 9 in the school hall - a very valuable session that I recommend you come along to!

A huge Thankyou to Mr. Macbean, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Long for giving up their time to come on the trip and make it such a memorable one!!!!!! And, of course, not forgetting Mr. Farrington, who we had the privilege of sharing his last Fairthorne trip with and hope that we helped make it a memorable one for him too!!!!

Mrs. J
