Home learning 1st June 2012

Home learning 1st June 2012

This week the children have received replies for their letters that they sent to Lamin and his family in the Gambia. Mr Farrington made links with Lamin and his family on his trip to the Gambia earlier this year. We were amazed that he wrote back to all of the children individually and would like to continue the project by sending Lamin some more replies. Mr Farrington has told us that Lamin in keen to learn more about our school and way of life in Britain, so for homework I would like you to keep a short diary explaining some of the things that you get up to during the holidays. The diary could include photos, pictures and writing.
Remember from our Literacy lessons what your diary should include…
• Describe what you do, in order. (Chronological)
• Include your thoughts and feelings.
• Write in a chatty informal style.
• Remember CAPITAL LETTERS and full stops, question marks and exclamation marks!
• You may like to use (brackets) or an ellipse …
After the holidays we will write again to Lamin and include your diaries.

REMINDER
On the first day back after half term (11.6.12) we will be going on our trip to Cranborne Ancient Technology Centre to learn more about the Iron Age way of life. The children will be blacksmithing, grinding corn, making bread, dying fabric with home made dye and making Roman clay bricks.

We will be returning from this school trip at 5pm. This is necessary to allow us time for the children to do all of these wonderful activities.

Your child will need to bring a packed lunch for this day and to make it more interesting, we like the children to bring a lunch that may have been eaten back in the Iron Age. As a challenge, can you find out what the Iron Age Celts might have eaten and bring it for lunch for the day? In the past, some children have even thought about how the Celts may have carried their lunch and brought it wrapped in a cloth!

Other things to bring – A drink (plastic bottles are fine!), sun hat and cream or coat as weather requires and wellies – (for mixing the clay for the brick making).

Have a wonderful holiday!
