A Christmas Challenge!

A quick p.s. Just to let you know that the library are running a small reading challenge over Christmas, much like the summer one - great fun and gets everyone reading! I nearly had the whole of Year 2 taking part last summer so I would love to see you all getting enthusiastic too! Have a go - just pop into the library and see what it's all about - the new library really is lovely, so if you haven't had a chance to pop in, now's the time! Why not sign up for a library card if you haven't already got one!

Good Luck - get lost in an imaginary world this holiday!!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear how you all get on!

Mrs. Johnson!

True professionals!

In between rehearsing hard, we have enjoyed some festive maths exploring coordinates to create christmas pictures, as well as cracking jokes by answering sums! We also chose how we would like to write and represent the Nativity story independently- beautiful poems were composed, diary entries written and comic strips created - fantastic!

Christmas technology day was great fun - and the festive head gear competition entries were outstanding! Well done everyone! A huge thank you also to Daisy's mum, Oliver's mum and Orren's mum for helping out - MUCH appreciated!!!!!!

Our dress rehearsal was superb today - well done! Can't wait for you all to see it and enjoy it!

A reminder that our Christmas party is on Friday and there is a list of party food to sign up for in the cloakroom - Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far - a few more contributions of the savoury kind would be great - pop in and have a look!

Thank you - also if you would like to join us for Christmas carols on Friday, at 2:45 in the school hall, please come along and get yourselves well and truly in the mood for Christmas!

See you there!

"It's a cracker!"

http://www.charlottethomas.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Christmas-crackers.jpg

Well, after the Christmas fair on Friday, I am certainly feeling very festive - we also bought our tree today and saw some real reindeer, so I am very excited!!!!! Ho! Ho! Ho! You should be very proud of yourselves, once again, Year 4 because our stall was very successful! People were really impressed with your crackers and decorations with lots of great comments being made, as well as nearly selling out!!!!! You can feel very proud that you helped to raise money for your school - well done!

I hope you have all been singing your hearts out at home, practising the show songs, as we really need to "nail" them this week (in the words of the x-factor judges!!!!!:-) )

Talking of "nailing it" your brass performance was excellent and very professional, thank you to all your family members who were able to come and watch!

See you all tomorrow,

Oooompa pa! Oooompa pa!

Hi there everyone,

A massive thank you to all of you who have organised your costumes so quickly and brought them in, also to those of you who have brought in items for other class mates, showing how kind and thoughtful you are - well done!

Play time Wardens should be very proud of themselves - you've done a brilliant job this week, mediating between many playground disputes, helping children find friends to play with and generally setting a great example - well done, you're a credit to your families and the school!

A reminder that it is our brass concert tomorrow - change of venue though, to the pre-school hall at 1:45! (Due to Christmas Fayre setting up!) Also the instruments will then remain in school to be handed back, so please try to remember them!

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow,

The Year 4 Team

Friends!

I just tuned in to the Wessex fm breakfast show pod cast, where children from our class can be heard - brilliant! Search it on google if you missed it!

Costume lists will come home on Monday for Year 4, although we have already discussed them in class, also the song words will come home then too (lots of singing and rehearsing is already taking place though) so well done!

A request: this time of year the children are feeling excited and also very tired....there have been a few "fall outs", we have talked in class how it is extra important, when we are feeling tired, to think carefully about how we are speaking to others, and to think of their feelings, and also that we are all friends, so if you are also able to reinforce this at home that would be great - thank you!

Tired!

Firstly, well done to the children who represented the school playing basket ball yesterday!

Secondly, thank you to all the wonderful mums who were able to come on our reed harvesting trip today - we couldn't have done it without you and the children had a fantastic time - very enjoyable and interesting! Look out for our reeds at Stone Henge!

A huge thank you too to Mr. Lane who has offered to come in to hear children in our class read - this is invaluable! Thank you!

Another massive thank you to Mr. Ellis who came in to give the children a very informative and fun presentation about teeth - we learned a lot and we particularly enjoyed hearing about what inspired you to become a dentist!
If any other parent would like to come and inspire the children about your chosen career then please pop in, or indeed if you feel you could listen to readers or even share a story (a favourite of yours maybe) with the class at the end of the day!?

Thank you to you all for your support! Also just to let you know that we will be performing our brass instruments in a small afternoon assembly next Friday at 1:45 pm and we would love you to come and watch just how brilliant we are!

Sooooooo many thank yous!!!!! :-)

Thank you!

http://cartwrightcakes.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/thank-you-teacher-cake.jpg

I would like to say a BIG thank you to all of you who joined us at our VE Day Tea Dance - I was overjoyed at the response, not only to the amazing cakes, but also to the amount of people that supported the celebration of our learning - and for being brave and joining in with the dancing! The children's faces said it all! Infact, I don't think thank you is a big enough word when I think also, about how many of you kindly helped us to tidy up! You have all helped to create a lasting happy memory for the children!

A plea for any body who may be free this Thursday morning to join us on a reed gathering morning in Radipole, leaving school at 9:15 - 12:30 - we have been asked to try and bring 5 additional adults, so if anyone is able to and would like to, please let me know ASAP - thank you (again!)

Thanks again

Party!

Just a reminder about tomorrow, as i am sure you all read on the home learning that came home last Friday, I asked for the children to wear their evacuee outfits to school tomorrow as it is our VE Day Tea Dance in the afternoon. We do hope you will come and join us in the school hall from 2:30pm to enjoy afternoon tea and cake as well as some dancing!
There will also be some photos from our brilliant trip to the Tank Museum on Monday, which was a very enjoyable day and the children thoroughly enjoyed the "hands on" artefacts, costumes, "drill", 1940's house, as well as experiencing modern day camp in Afghanistan, and also getting inside the Chieftan Tank!

A few notes............

Hi there everyone!

A few notes............
  • A reminder for those children taking part in the rugby tomorrow (you know who you are), don't forget a packed lunch as you will be leaving early, bring a drink and an extra snack for afterwards, I also suggest you bring trainers (that you don't mind getting muddy), and some tracksuit bottoms in case it gets cold!!!
  • Trip to Bovington Tank Museum on Monday - children to dress up in their WW2 costumes from the Nothe Fort + bring a packed lunch - a few reply slips still needed in please!
  •  Something new..........tomorrow children will be bringing home a "Big Talk" home learning task for Friday - it will be explained on the sheet, so a heads up to check book bags tomorrow evening - the children will be required to discuss a picture with you that will be the basis for a piece of independent, extended writing on Friday (we will also be discussing this in class tomorrow too) - they will be allowed to bring in a special pencil for the Big Write too!
  •
  • Invites will be coming home on Friday for our VE Day Tea Dance party next Thursday afternoon, so please keep that free in your diaries if possible!
This week we have been enjoying being poets, learning all about Japanese Haiku and Tanka poetry as well as Viking Kennings poerty and how to write in these styles - some truly beautiful poetic pieces - well done! Numeracy has seen us extending our learning of written multiplication methods into short multiplication - the children have really been taking ownership over their learning and, when given the option of moving on to new learning tomorrow, they all expressed the wish to continue with this learning until Friday because they felt they needed to consolidate their confidence and understanding!
In science we began our Science/DT project, researching all about particular dietary needs, in preparation for our cooking! (Some budding medical practitioners!!!!!) In RE we looked at the symbolism of Christmas, both commercial and christian, we then explored the nativity story with a focus on symbolism! (We need to get our creative brains on for next week when we will be embarking on a collaborative learning project based around this theme!)

Keep warm (it's really chilly!!!!!!!! You can probably hear my teeth chattering!)
