Lava Lamp Learning

In Science today we looked at lava lamps and how the materials interacted inside the lamp. Mrs Bourne then showed us how to make a lava lamp.

Here are the instructions so you can make your own:

You will need:

An empty bottle
Vegetable oil
Water
Food colouring (optional)
Alca Seltzer tablets


1) Pour some water into the bottle, add a few drops of food colouring in to give your lamp colour.
2) Fill the rest of the bottle up with the vegetable oil.
3) Add a few Alka Seltzer tablets.
4) Put on the lid.
5) Watch the lava lamp and discuss the science going on inside.
