Sports Leaders Update

Ten Year Four pupils had a fantastic opportunity to represent our school at St Mary’s Middle School yesterday as newly appointed Sports Leaders.

During the day, the children learnt from the experienced Sports Leaders at St Mary’s, who taught them how to organise and lead a range of fun, inclusive games such as ice-breakers, capture the flag and bench ball, alongside many others. Our pupils showed great enthusiasm, teamwork and leadership as they took part in each activity.

The afternoon focused on leadership and initiative, with the Year Fours working together to plan ways to encourage more children at Prince of Wales to be active. They came up with the brilliant idea of launching their very own Prince of Wales Park Run, which will take place every Thursday lunchtime for fifteen minutes (starting soon).

The children confidently shared their plans in assembly and it was wonderful to see how many pupils were excited and keen to take part. This is just the beginning of their leadership journey, as our new Sports Leaders will also be organising and running a sports event at school for children from other schools to enjoy.

We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles across our school community.

Year 4 - Week 1

We have had an amazing first week back in class, topped off with an incredible trip to London! The children thoroughly enjoyed visiting Shakespeare’s Globe and taking in the sights around the city. It was a memorable experience for everyone.

In Maths, we are focusing on addition and subtraction, alongside regular times tables practice. Please continue to support this at home where possible.

Shakespeare rehearsals have officially begun and the children are already showing great enthusiasm and confidence. In Science, our new topic is Sound, and the children absolutely loved this week’s lesson. Lots of fantastic curiosity and questions!

Our new book in English is Pride, which has sparked some thoughtful discussion and excitement about our upcoming work.

Costume lists will be sent home later this week, so please keep an eye out for those.

We would also like to remind you about the Parent Information Session on Friday at 9:00am in the staff room. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Finally, a reminder that there are still a few children without PE kits in school. Please ensure these are brought in as soon as possible.

Welcome back - Year 4

Hello everyone!

A huge thank you to all parents and carers for the very kind Christmas presents — they were greatly appreciated. We would also hope you and your families had a wonderful Christmas holiday and a happy New Year!

Important Reminders

• Please ensure children bring their PE kits tomorrow.

• PE lessons will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays going forward.

• Shakespeare rehearsals begin tomorrow, please can children bring in their scripts.

  We will also be taking part in a sound beam workshop tomorrow, which is a first for POW. SoundBeam is a multi award-winning, touch-free assistive music technology that turns physical movements into sounds and music.

🌟 Year 4 – Another Wonderful Week of Learning and Creativity! 🌟

What an exciting and productive week we’ve had in Year 4! The children have continued to impress us with their enthusiasm, teamwork and boundless imagination.

Our Whispers of Winter event was a real highlight. The atmosphere throughout the day was magical, and the children embraced every challenge with such creativity and confidence. On Monday, we devoted the whole day to Inspired Writing, and it was wonderful to see the children so deeply involved in building their own imaginative world.

They began by creating detailed maps of the land where our character, the Hob, lives. Many children added mountains, hidden caves, lakes, forests and mysterious pathways. Each one uniquely designed and carefully labelled. They then worked together to invent rules for this magical land, thinking about how creatures would live, communicate and keep themselves safe. Their ideas were incredibly thoughtful and often very funny!

Next, they moved on to producing adverts that promoted the wonders of the Hob’s land. These adverts were persuasive, descriptive and brilliantly creative, showing just how much the children have grown in their writing skills. To finish the day, everyone took part in junk modelling to bring their imagined world to life. The classroom was buzzing with excitement as children designed and built models using boxes, tubes, fabric, and anything else they could find. The results were fantastic!

Alongside all this, Winter Show rehearsals are now in full swing, and we could not be more proud. The children are working so hard to learn their lines, perfect their singing, and build confidence on stage. Their dedication is shining through, and we are incredibly excited for you to see the final performance. We know it’s going to be something very special.

Please could costumes be sent into school as soon as possible so that we can begin full dress rehearsals. If you’re unsure about any part of your child’s costume or need clarification, please feel free to get in touch and I will be happy to help.

🌟 Year 4 – Weekly Update 🌟

 We’ve had a fantastic week in Year 4, filled with creativity, learning, and exciting experiences!

📚 English

In English, we continued exploring our class text The Crown. The children worked brilliantly on using expanded noun phrases, prepositional phrases, and similes to enhance their descriptive writing. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experiment with rich, imaginative language.

➗ Maths

In Maths, we moved on to our new topic: area. The class enjoyed working practically and visually as they learned how to calculate and compare the area of different shapes.

🎨 Art

Art has been especially fun this week as we continued decorating our robins. The children have shown great attention to detail, and their designs are looking fantastic!

🕌 RE / Visitor

We were delighted to welcome Sherene, who visited us to talk about her Islamic faith. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great respect and curiosity during the session.

🖼️ Friday Trip

To finish the week, we visited the art centre to see the birds we created earlier this term. The children loved seeing their work displayed in a real gallery setting—such a proud moment for us all!

Autumn 2, Week 2 in Year 4

What an Amazing Week!

We’ve had another fantastic week in class, full of resilience, excitement and lots of happy faces. The children have shown such enthusiasm in everything they’ve tackled, and we’re incredibly proud of them.

Maths

In Maths, we continued our work on the column method for both addition and subtraction. The children are becoming much more confident with setting out their calculations and understanding the steps involved. It’s been wonderful to see their persistence paying off!

English

In English, we began exploring our new book The Crown. The week started with great excitement when a mysterious scroll appeared in the classroom, asking the children to make a crown to help save the girl in the story. We read the opening pages together and made predictions about what might happen next. The children were buzzing with ideas!

Science

Our Science learning focused on changing states of matter. We explored how materials change when heated or cooled and carried out an investigation using a thermometer. The children loved making predictions, observing changes, and discussing their results like real scientists.

PE

PE was definitely a highlight this week! The children practised handstands, headstands, and both forward and backward rolls. Their confidence and control have grown so much—well done, everyone!

Reminder: If your child is taking part in the Rugby event, they need to come into school wearing their PE kits and will need football boots as it is tag rugby.

Welcome back Year 4

🌟 Welcome Back to Autumn Term 2! 🌟

We hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for another exciting half term ahead!

Just a few reminders for the coming weeks:

• PE will now take place on Wednesdays – please make sure children come to school with their PE kits to be kept in their lockers.

• Swimming will continue on Thursdays, so don’t forget swimming kits and towels.

• Reading records should be brought in on Fridays – thank you to everyone who’s been keeping up with reading at home!

We’re still waiting for the whole class to have their reading records back in — let’s see if we can make it happen this week!

Looking forward to seeing everyone bright and early in the morning.
