Year 4 W/C 5th Feb 2018
Firstly, many apologies for forgetting to add the consent slip to the bottom of the letter regarding the DASP Y4 singing concert - I will send out a slip by Thursday!
We hope you can all attend as we are representing the school as a whole class!
What an exciting start to our week yesterday was with a trip through outer space!!!!! We were extremely lucky to meet and work with Suzie Imber who was incredibly inspiring! What a privilege!
Today we will be continuing our science exploration by a visit to "The Dome"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have been doing some cross curricular writing, creating space themed poetry and learning about persuasive writing designing a poster looking for new astronauts!
Please do explore this website together at home!
https://www.esa.int/esaKIDSen/Astronauts.html
Tomorrow we will be having some fun, learning with students and staff from The Dorchester Thomas Hardye School.
DON'T FORGET TOMORROW IS DRESS UP DAY - COME AS YOUR FAVOURITE SCIENTIST!!!! (I understand this may be a little tricky as we have swimming, by all means wear your costume to the pool and we can adjust/sort hair after!)
Thank you to all of you who have brought in Science home learning for the Science Fayre tomorrow afternoon! Families are welcome to come and enjoy the fayre from 2:45 in the school hall - we will be visiting the fayre as a class.

Year 4 DASP singing concert information
Below is a copy of the letter that will be sent home tomorrow. It is regarding the Year 4 DASP concert and all the logistics. Please support us in this event and come along to represent the school, we have been working hard to learn the songs and it will be wonderful.
Dear Parents,
Year 4 children are taking part in the DASP Choral Festival with other first schools from DASP on Wednesday 7th March. Please can you drop your child at St. Osmunds Sports Hall for 9:20am where PoW staff will meet them. We will be walking back to school in time for lunch.
For the evening, the children need to be at St Osmund’s Middle School Sports Hall in Dorchester at 6pm (the doors to the performance space will not open before 6 pm). The performance will then start at 6.30pm and will last around 1 hour. Please be considerate when parking near St Osmund’s so as not to cause too much disruption for the local residents.
Entrance to the performance is free. There will be a retiring collection to raise funds for DASP Music (registered charity 1162919). This money is then used by the DASP schools for musical projects such as this in the future.
For the evening, children will need to wear their school uniform.
The children can access the songs that they need to learn for the concert by following this link:
Please sign the permission slip below to confirm that they will be attending the evening performance where they will be representing The Prince of Wales School.
Many thanks.

Year 4 Monday 15th January 2018
Murder!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was a terrible, terrible crime scene waiting for us last week!!!!!!!!!!
We had to be great detectives with super deduction and inference skills to work who had died, why, how and who were the suspects??????????? We made several predictions with excellent supporting reasons, possible motives and evidence from the crime scene. It was later revealed to us that this was, of course, the work of William Shakespeare............Macbeth!
We explored the great, gruesome mystery further through drama and story telling - revealing that some of us were correct in our theories - of course it was terribly important that we informed the world about these terrible events, so we began writing our own newspaper reports. Today, year 4 began word processing their articles, before editing tomorrow.
Thank you to those parents who were able to come to the information session, I hope my maths lesson was useful with the home learning this week end?👍👌 We have begun division "chunking" today.
Re the Hooke Court after school meeting, we have changed the date because I am unable to lead it on the original date - the new date on the calendar is THURSDAY 1ST FEBRUARY 3:30 in the year 4 classroom.
There will be a letter coming out shortly with details of the DASP Year 4 singing concert.

Year 4 Sunday 7th January 2018
2018 = "The Year of Year 4!"
What an exciting and challenging year of adventure, learning and changes we have ahead of us! The next two terms are really important for us now in terms of increasing independence, self organisation, our attitudes to learning, effort and focus in our learning, increased self confidence and self esteem building.
We began our new year by thinking about dreams and goals for the coming year, after revisiting our class charter - rights and responsibilities! This meant that everyone has started their learning how they mean to go on - with a big focus on effort and resilience!
As you may have noticed we are learning about journalistic writing in literacy, so please do take a moment to share a newspaper or article together and encourage the children to identify the key features! We will be using these features to create our own newspaper articles over the next couple of weeks - but obviously need a lead................watch this space!!!!!!!!😉
In numeracy we began by learning formal written calculation methods for multiplication, this week we will be developing our reasoning skills.
In swimming we had the lane ropes in and ALL groups are now swimming lengths!!!!!👍👍👍👍
Home learning: Spellings (learn the lists across as before - 2 rows list 1, 4 rows list 2, 6 rows list 3, all = challenge!), times tables, newspaper comprehension.
I cannot emphasise enough how important it is for ALL children to be practising their x tables and spellings so please take 10 minutes a day to practise! Not only are they required to know all their tables by the end of year 4, but being able to quickly draw on this knowledge will help them in many areas of numeracy as they progress through the following year groups. Thank you for your support at home, this really compliments and consolidates what we do in class!

Year 4 - Sunday 10th December 2017
Christmas certainly began last week...........by walking into Narnia!!!!!!!!!! We were inspired to write, not only during our collaborative morning but also combining all things Christmas and Narnia with shape to create poems in our numeracy books!!!!!
It has been a real pleasure to see and hear how musical our class are. We were treated to a piano recital and a violin concert as well as Oliver playing his clarinet for us in class. What a talented class we have, it was wonderful to see such progress! Well done!!!!!!
We put a lot of effort into our rehearsals this week, also practising with live music. The quality of the acting and singing is outstanding, I am sure you will all agree with me when you come along to watch - you won't fail to feel festive! Please make sure all costumes are in school TOMORROW, thank you!
Any children that received an award last half term, please could you return your trophy BEFORE THURSDAY, thank you.
Don't forget Friday is Christmas party day (we are providing food in year 4 so don't worry about bringing in food), you are all also welcome to join us for Carols on Friday at 2:45 in the hall.
There will be no PE this week, so kits can go home.
Thank you for all your support, especially in organising costumes for the play.
Mrs. J
