Welcome Back to Spring 2 - Year

Hi everyone,

We hope you have all had a lovely half term break. We are looking forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday, as tomorrow is an INSET day.

Forest School

Forest School will now take place on Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure your child brings appropriate clothing in, this can be left in school, including:

A waterproof coat, wellies, suitable trousers and tops (that you don’t mind getting muddy!)

PE

PE will now be on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure PE kits are in school and clearly labelled.

🌟 World Book Day 🌟

This year’s theme is “Go All In”, which aims to inspire children to read by helping them make meaningful connections between books and their own hobbies, passions and interests.

Dressing Up

On World Book Day, children are invited to come to school dressed as:

• Their favourite book character, or

• A character linked to their interests (for example, a sports figure from a book, a scientist, musician, etc.).

Please be reassured that costumes are expected to be simple, comfortable and accessible, with no expectation of spending money. Creative, homemade or everyday clothing is absolutely encouraged.

Book Swap

We will also be holding a book swap on World Book Day. Children may bring in one or two good-quality books that they no longer read and exchange them for another book.

This is a lovely way to refresh home bookshelves and share a love of reading. These can be brought in any time before World Book Day or on the day itself.

Mystery Readers

We are also inviting Mystery Readers to join us! If you would like to take part, you will need to:

• Choose a book of your choice

• Come into school at 3:10pm to read to the class

Places will be offered on a first come, first served basis, and we only have space for five readers, so please email Miss White as soon as possible if you would like to volunteer.

A Proud Moment for Our Year 4 Cast

 A Proud Moment for Our Year 4 Cast

Last night, we had the absolute privilege of watching our incredible Year 4 children take to the stage at Weymouth Pavilion to perform Romeo and Juliet. We could not have been prouder of what they achieved.

From our very first read-through in the classroom to standing together on a professional stage, the journey these children have been on has been remarkable. They have worked tirelessly to learn lines, understand their characters and support one another through every rehearsal. Seeing that hard work come together so beautifully under the bright lights was a truly special moment.

The setting at Weymouth Pavilion made the evening feel even more magical. The lights, music and atmosphere helped bring the story to life, but it was the children who truly made it shine. They captured the humour, love and joy within the play, while also treating the more heartfelt and emotional moments with maturity and sensitivity. Their confidence, expression and stage presence were wonderful to see, and they performed with such enthusiasm and teamwork.

What impressed us most was the way they supported each other throughout. Whether delivering a leading role, speaking as part of a group, or waiting patiently backstage, every single child played an important part in the success of the production. Their encouragement for one another and their commitment to doing their very best made directing this play such a rewarding experience.

We truly cannot find the words to express how proud we are of every single one of them. Watching them stand together on that stage, giving their all, is a moment that will remain in our memories forever.

We would also like to thank families for their ongoing support. From helping with lines at home to joining us in the audience last night. Your encouragement means so much to the children and helped make the evening unforgettable.

Year 4, you were outstanding. It has been a joy to direct you, and we are so incredibly proud of each and every one of you.

This afternoon, it was lovely to celebrate our success together by watching Gnomeo and Juliet with popcorn and sweets – a well-deserved treat after such a fantastic performance.

Year 4 - Week 5

 Year 4 have had a truly super and action-packed week!

Our week began in the most magical way on Monday with a very special visit from a dragon called Luna 🐉. This exciting experience sparked the children’s imaginations and set the tone for a fantastic week of writing. The children finished the story introduced during assembly, thinking carefully about characters, settings and plot development. They then went on to design and create their own unique dragons, considering everything from appearance and powers to personality and habitat.

Using their dragon creations, the children wrote detailed non-chronological reports, organising their ideas under clear headings and including lots of interesting information. To finish off our writing journey, they also produced persuasive pieces, working hard to convince the reader using powerful vocabulary and well-structured arguments. The creativity, enthusiasm and effort shown throughout the week have been wonderful to see.

In Maths, we continued our learning on multiplication and division. The children have been practising a range of strategies to solve problems and are becoming more confident when applying their skills to different questions.

Alongside our curriculum learning, the week has been filled with rehearsals as we have been busy finessing our Romeo and Juliet performance. The children have shown great focus, teamwork and resilience as they worked together to improve their acting, timing and confidence on stage.

A reminder that children can enjoy a relaxed morning on Wednesday and should be in school by 12pm. The children will be performing to the whole school tomorrow, and they are very excited to showcase all their hard work. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and can’t wait for them to shine! We look forward to seeing many of you on Wednesday evening.

Year 4 - Week 4

Another amazing week in Year 4!

This week has been full of excitement and creativity across the curriculum. The children have been thoroughly enjoying their Shakespeare rehearsals, showing fantastic enthusiasm and confidence as they continue to bring the story to life. Alongside this, we’ve been practising for our upcoming singing concert, with the children working hard to learn lyrics, improve their performance skills, and sing together as a team.

In Science, the children have been busy creating graphs, developing their ability to collect, record, and interpret data. In Maths, we continued our work on multiplication and division, with the children demonstrating growing confidence and resilience when tackling increasingly challenging problems.

The week ended on a high note with a very special surprise for our Romeo and Juliet cast, which was met with lots of excitement and smiles all round. It has been wonderful to see the children’s hard work and dedication paying off in so many areas of school life.

Important reminder: Not all children have their costumes in school yet. Please ensure these are brought in as soon as possible so we can be fully prepared for rehearsals and our upcoming performance. Thank you for your continued support.
