Thank you

Thank you for joining us today to celebrate year 4's final day at the Prince of Wales school. It was a very special day and was a wonderful opportunity to relive happy memories and reflect on how much the children have grown and how incredible they are.

Thank you also for your kind words, generous gifts, and beautiful cards and messages.

We hope you all have a lovely summer break and wish you and all your children a happy and successful transition to their next schools.

Please don't be strangers.

Lots of love,
The year 4 team. xxx

Last day

Dear Parents and carers,

It feels as though this year has gone by in a flash but at the same time I am amazed by all that the children have achieved this year. Whilst the children have all made progress in terms of learning, they have also achieved so much more than this. For me our Macbeth performance was a highlight but each child also has their own personal accomplishments.

Today, each child should have come home with a personalised card. On the front of the card is a word cloud in the shape of a star - each word was chosen by your child's classmates and this will hopefully help them appreciate how special and unique they are.

For tomorrow's leavers event, as well as your child needing a picnic lunch, please also ensure that they have a hat, water bottle and snack. As your child won't be in school uniform you are welcome to send in a school polo shirt for them to collect signatures. This is not compulsory and they will also be given leavers books which can be signed if you would prefer.

Please remember that school pick up time will be 10 minutes earlier for year 4 as they are clapped out by the rest of the school.

As your child embarks on the next exciting chapter of their lives, me, the year 4 team and the wider school community community wish them every happiness and success.

You and your child will always be a part of the POW community and we always love seeing previous students for visits or at our Autumn and Spring Fests and summer fairs.

Wishing you all a happy, restful and safe summer holidays.

Lots of love from,
Ms Browne, Mrs Bernard, Mrs McConnell, Miss Street, Mrs Scott and Mr MacBean.

Please return all school and class library books

Dear parents and carers,

Could your child please return all school and class library books as soon as possible. We won't mind if you only have one to return or an enormous stash of school books - we will just be very grateful to have them back to replenish our class and school libraries!

School library books have an orange, green or blue label on the book spine, whilst the class library books have a white label on the cover saying "year 4 library".

Finally, if your child has any good quality reading books that they no longer read and you would like to donate these to our libraries they would be gratefully received.

Thank you for your help with this matter.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne & the year 4 team

French Breakfast

PLEASE NOTE - On Friday morning we will be enriching our French curriculum by having a French breakfast in Year Three and Year Four. The children will need to converse with Monsieur MacBean et Madame Drew in French when they order their croissant and drink. This will be an in-class event during the normal school day.

This week's PSHE, What's coming up and home learning for all

Dear parents and carers,

With just three weeks of school left, we are beginning to prepare for the year 4 leavers assembly.

For those families unfamiliar with the leavers assembly format, the children will be given an award and a pre recorded acceptance speech will be shown along with photographs and their chosen song. Videos from last year's awards can be viewed here

For this week's home learning, the children should think about what song they would like played whilst they receive their award. Today, they have a slip to record this on, noting the name of the song and the artist that performs it. Please can these be returned to school by Monday 10th July.

The children have also been sent home with their leavers assembly acceptance speeches to practice. Mr Spracklen will be recording speeches on Monday 10th July and so it would be great if children could bring in their leavers hoodies for recordings on Monday.

PSHE
In today's PSHE, we discussed the fact that babies are made from a sperm and an egg. We also talked about mensuration, erections and wet dreams. The children were very sensible and had lots of great questions. One of the questions several children had was how the sperm and egg come together. Typically, most PSHE schemes suggest teaching about sexual intercourse in year 6 although many children do start asking questions before this time. I have therefore advised the children to ask parents and carers if they have questions beyond what I am permitted to teach. If you would like any support or advice on this area please feel free to get in touch.

Upcoming events:
5th July - School closed (please see email from Mr Spracklen for details)

6th July - Transfer day.

7th July - School closed (please see email from Mr Spracklen for details)
