Link to DMS Blog

Hello future DMS parents,

Mrs Ray from Dorchester Middle School has asked me to share the link to her blog with you. To view this please click here. She has shared some great photographs and information about her visit and assembly last week and you may want to save the link as I'm sure she will be updating it with more news very soon.

Mrs Ray and the year 5 team are looking forward to meeting our year 4s going to DMS on Thursday morning. It is a shame that  due to covid it won't be the full experience that they had planned but I know the new tutors will still make the morning as fun and helpful as restrictions allow.

Miss Easton has also sent a poster of photographs of DMS staff in the year 5 team so that our year 4s going to DMS start getting familiar with their faces.

If you have any questions I can answer do get in touch although Mrs Ray has been delighted to hear from some of you.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne

Middle School Transition Update

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a lovely weekend and didn't have  too much Hooke Court washing to do. It really was a fantastic few days and this together with Shakespeare has been one of my highlights with your lovely children.

Just a quick update regarding middle school transitioning plans now that the original plans for transition day had to be cancelled due to covid restrictions:

Dorchester Middle School
Miss Easton (learning support mentor) has been in twice now to informally meet with the children. Today Miss Easton,  Mrs Pluck the Headteacher and Mrs Ray the assistant head of Key stage 2 came in to deliver an assembly to the year 4 going to DMS, together with some of last years POW year 4. It was lovely to see our previous students who shared first hand experiences of their time at DMS.
Next Thursday 1st July the children going to DMS will still visit DMS. They will walk to DMS with POW staff and will meet their tutors and find out which POW children are in their class but they will need to stay outside of the school building.

Mrs Ray and Mrs Pluck also hope to run an outside visit for children and parents but details will follow and a year 5 tutor is planning to visit the children again in July. Mrs Ray also suggested that parents should look at the DMS blog regularly for updates.

St Osmunds School
Mrs Pegram came into school to meet the year 4 children going to St Osmunds last term. She also sends weekly emails to the email address that applied for your school place. If you have not received these emails you may want to check your junk mail and then contact her to add your email if needed.
Year 4 children have been invited to visit St Osmunds with their parents to meet their tutor on either the 5th or 6th July. If you have not received this email you may want to get in touch to arrange a time slot ASAP.
Please could you let me or Mr Edmunds know what time your child will be visiting the St Osmunds school once your time slot has been confirmed. Thank you.

If you have any questions that I can answer from a POW perspective please, as ever get in touch.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne

Exciting News...

We will be having our Arts and Wellbeing Week from Monday 12th to Friday 16th July this year.

We have got lots of exciting, creative and mindful activities planned for the children and are collecting the following resources:

Interesting (clean) plastic waste such as:

 colourful bottles

bottle tops

carrier bags

cord

string

nets

sheet

plastic

lids

jars

beads, etc...

This will be built into a rather exciting art instillation in the hall.

Wool - Any type

If you have any of the above spare, please bring to the office where we will place a collection box.

We look forward to bringing you more news about this and more #InspiredToLearn weeks soon!

The one where we get excited about Hooke Court

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and are enjoying the warmer weather. We've had a great first week back and I think for most of the year 4s the highlight has been spending time with their buddies. It has been lovely having the school together and year 4 and their buddies are making good use of the new play equipment at break times.

Home learning
The children have two weeks to complete this week's home learning which is due to be returned to school by Friday 25th June. Their activity is to create their own model or diagram of the Water Cycle.

Hooke Court
This is the last weekend before Hooke Court and whilst I am aware that some organised families have packed their child's bags, in my household this will be the time that I find all the items we need and do some washing.
  • If you need reminder of the kit list please click here.
  • If your child needs to take any medications whilst we are away, please complete the online form by clicking here.  This should be completed by the end of Tuesday at the lastest. You will need to give your child's medicine to one of the staff team on Wednesday morning when you drop your child off.
  • If your child can occasionally be prone to bedwetting please email me. Please provide your child with pyjama bedwetting pants and staff will ensure that these can be discreetly disposed of in the morning.
  • Please note that children should not bring expensive items, money or a historical costume and that an excessive amount of sweets or snacks will be confiscated (and we cannot guarantee that they will be returned to their original owners at the end of the trip).
It is completely normal if your child has a few worries about staying away from home but if you have any specific concerns please contact me.

PSHE / JIGSAW
Just a quick reminder that this week we started the Relationship and Sex education aspect of our PSHE / JIGSAW program of learning. For more information about this please refer to my previous RSE letter. Lesson 2 of the unit will be taught on Monday (assuming no sudden changes to the timetable) and so you may want to be prepared to answer any questions your child may have.

As ever, if you have any questions or concerns about any topic, please get in touch.

Kind regards,
Ms Browne, Ms Williams & the Year 4 Team. xx

Bike Mix Up - 10th June 2021

 Can you help?

We have had a bit of a bike mix up!  Someone has mistakenly taken the wrong bike home today from the bike shed.  It is a black and bright yellow/green Apollo bike.  If you have a bike of the same colour and model, could you please check as the missing bike has a child's name on it.  The twin bike is safe and sound at school!  We hope to swap them back tomorrow!

Many Thanks
