Food Glorious Food

Hello everyone,

I am very excited to launch our new Year 4 Spring 2 topic: Food Glorious Food (yes I did choose this topic but I do promise not to make it all about custard creams!).

Hopefully, you have already received your flip grid for this week which invites children to either try a new food or to carry out a blindfolded taste test. The first response from a child I received cleverly combined both - so now might be your opportunity to get your child to try that food they normally refuse at the dinner table!

In Wednesday's Art lesson the children will be invited to create a (rough) sculpture out of paper so any newspaper, tissue or scrap paper you have handy will be useful on that day. In Thursday's science lesson I am inviting the children to think about a science experiment using eggs to explore the effects of different liquids on teeth (using egg shells). If you would also like your child to participate in this experiment you will need three raw eggs, three containers and three different liquids   (water, cheap cola and vinegar are the liquids I use). Your child doesn't need to do the experiment at home as I will share my results the following week.

In Thursday's delivery you will be given grammar and punctuation booklet which will be used in our weekly SPAG lessons.

Our food topic corresponds with Fair Trade Fortnight. There will be some coverage of fair trade this week in assemblies but year 4 will mainly be covering this topic next week. In preparation for what we are doing next week, if you are able to save any food packaging that either has its country of origin on or has the fair trade logo on it, this will be very helpful.

As I write this blog there is still uncertainty of what lies before us in the the forthcoming weeks. As ever please contact myself or Mr Spracklen if you have any questions, comments or concerns. We are truly in it together and we will do what we can to support you.

Take care,

Ms Browne & the Year 4 team. xx

End of term VE day party on Thursday

Hello everyone,

It's hard to believe that it is almost the end of half term. Whilst it has been a difficult six weeks for many, I have been so proud and impressed with the engagement and learning this term - so well done to all the year 4 children - and parents and carers!

To celebrate the end of term and the end of our WW2 topic we will be having a Year 4 VE day themed Zoom party on Thursday at 12.30pm. Children are invited to decorate their zoom space, dress up and eat party food, although this is of course optional.

I will be emailing the Zoom invite to parents and carers today (Tuesday) so if you don't receive it by Wednesday please let by me know. It will be lovely to see as many children as possible.

As ever if you have any questions, comments or suggestions please let me know.

Kind regards,

Ms Browne and the year 4 team.

A very big well done to all of you who have been rocking with Times Table Rockstars this week.  Each and every one of you will be receiving a Golden Trophy award in Marvellous Me for continuing your times tables journey.

This week we would like to praise the following children in each class for either achieving the most number of coins in the past week or the most time per day spent rocking (or both):

Year 2 Rock Solid Rockers are:  Marissa and Isabel

Year 3's Rock Legends are: Jacob A and Hollie

Year 4's Rocking around the clock stars are:  Gracie-Mae and Orson

Well done everyone!

And remember TTRS is not essential, it is an added, extra fun way of building your times table recall.

Keep Rocking!

Window Wanderland and an extra arty challenge! Jiggly Jellyfish! - 4th February 2021

Hopefully you have all received your latest lockdown goody pack today!  You will find included some tissue paper and some black card to help you join in with this week's challenge.

#InspiredToLearn - Lockdown 2 - Week 5 Challenge

We have been asked by Window Wanderland to take part in a Dorchester Wide community event!

Window Wanderland is coming to Dorchester on 19th-21st February, 6-9pm.

This event asks people to decorate a window at home as part of a window trail around our local community.

Window Wanderland’s aim is to bring the whole community together to create a magical outdoor gallery of hope and solidarity, at this difficult time.

They are asking everybody, from individuals to businesses, to register and create a window display on the theme,

'A Brighter Future.'

All are invited to view the wonderful windows and Dorchester's community spirit on a safe, Covid-friendly evening walk.

It would be great if you would consider signing up and creating a window even if you don’t live in the local community or want to take part in the actual event.

If you do want to be part of the trail, registration is quick and simple at: www.windowwanderland.com/Dorchester

If you have enjoyed getting Arty with your own windows and fancy an extra challenge how about making a Jiggly Jelly Fish to hang in a shop window?

Then you need #InspiredToLearn EXTRA ARTY CHALLENGE!

We have been approached by Store6 in Poundbury to help us decorate their windows with your models of Jellyfish made from recycled materials.  If you fancy joining in and seeing your design in a shop window during the window wanderland event, please bring your completed jellyfish to school by next Friday 12th February and place it in the box inside the front entrance
.  Please could you add your name and a hanging thread to your design so that it can be hung up for all to see!

Don't forget to look out for your design if you take part in the Window Wanderland Event between the 19th and 21st of February.
