Year 4 - tomorrow...........radio, cakes and awards!

Tomorrow...............................

PoW is hosting the Wessex FM Breakfast show 6-9am.
A reminder: Yr4 have been asked to sing our song at 8am - ONLY IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO, arrive at school for 7:45 to sing at 8am sharp! Parents do NOT need to stay.

The children who worked with Mr. Spracklen and the Wessex FM team the other day (you know who you are) will be interviewed/live on air at 8:30, so either come for the song then stay or just come for the interview.

Yet another fabulous experience and opportunity!

Cake sale tomorrow 3:20 - 3:50 ish!!!!!!!

Please could  the last couple of awards come back tomorrow too!

Many thanks!

Year 4 21/05/18 - "When I grow up, I want to be a pop star........!"

We hope you all enjoyed the beautiful sunshine this week-end?

Thank you to you all for responding so quickly the change of school day today - as you can appreciate, it was such a special and once in a lifetime opportunity to coordinate a group of experts..........and the outcome is VERY special - but you will have to wait to see it!!!! No other Year 4s will have such a chance - what a wonderful memory that has been created for our children!!!!!!

A HUGE, MASSIVE, TREMENDOUS, HEART FELT THANK YOU - to Jay for organising Micky, the producer to come and work with us, to Eve for giving up a whole day to come and film the ENTIRE experience (can't wait to see the video - she now has yet more hours ahead to put it all together), to Micky for giving up his day to produce our song - I was in awe of the process and how intricate and precise it was as well as how long it takes!!!!!!! Finally, thank you to Hanna for moving her whole timetable around and giving up her day to provide her musical talents, not only as our pianist but in helping to coordinate the music and vocals - we really couldn't have done it without her!!!!!!

If you enjoyed the experience and would like to make pop music, play in a band or learn how the technical side works, why not think about PoP Club run by Micky at the Corn Exchange on a Saturday morning?! Google PoP Clubs in Dorset and you should find it!

A reminder about our cake sale on Friday! If there is anyone who would like to volunteer to come in from about 3pm to help that would be wonderful and you would be more than welcome, I will also be asking 4 or 5 children to sell the cakes from 3:20 - 3:50 ish - if you do not want me to ask your child to stay and sell cakes, please do let me know!

Thank you for your support,

Mrs J and Mrs. Scott

Year 4 - We are beaming with pride!!!!!

Congratulations to the Year 4 PoW Swim Team - incredible effort and team work! You ALL made us proud and to hear you talking about the event with such passion and enthusiasm as well as great applause and recognition for each other was heart warming!!!!!

Another "THANK YOU AND WELL DONE" to the children who represented PoW as Digital Leaders at County Hall yesterday - I think you more than impressed them!!!!!!!!!!

Well done to Charlotte and Lewis who enjoyed another PE session at DMS.

Samba this week was outstanding! We played as a real Samba Band combining 5 different rhythms!!!!! Watch this space for a surprise concert!!!!!!!

REMINDER: Slips for MONDAY need to be returned tomorrow please - remember we will not be at school all day!!!!! There was a big mix up over packed lunches last Friday on our trip where only 7 were ordered but 15 children came without a lunch - of course they didn't go hungry, but please could you check what you have ordered for Monday. I did remind the children today who we were expecting to provide packed lunches for. If you order a hot dinner and we are on a trip a school packed lunch is ALWAYS provided.

Finally, we have been reinforcing with the class our class charter, with particular focus on managing distractions, listening and treating others with respect as well as also taking a real pride in our work and being responsible for our belongings, making sure we are prepared with essential tools for each lesson. We would kindly ask that you could support us with discussing this at home in preparation for moving on.

Thank you.

Year 4 Celebrations, learning and reminders!

Home Learning is week was to:

continue practising your times tables,
complete your mathletics tasks,
learn your spellings from last week (we are doing them this week as we were only in class 3 days last week!) They are focussing on letter strings with alternate pronunciations: ear, ought, ice, au. Use all the strategies we have practised in class to help you learn them.

Last week in numeracy and the beginning of this week we were looking at measure, in particular converting between units of measure - mm to cm, cm to mm, etc in all areas of measure (length, mass and capacity) Can you find ways of practising this at home using scales, rulers, tape measures, empty bottles and measuring jugs?

There will be a letter coming home on Wednesday with details about our day out NEXT MONDAY! (No cost involved and hot dinners ordered will be provided with a packed lunch).

Thank you to the children who went to DMS today as ambassadors for PoW. They did an excellent job at reporting back to the class about life in Year 5!

Congratulations to Charlotte and Emily who took part in the bubble run this week-end! We are very proud of you for running for a great cause.
Congratulations too to Faye and Erica who took part in her first competitive club swimming gala winning firsts and seconds. Wow - amazing girls!!!!!
A huge well done to Kitty who went back AGAIN to continue cleaning up the beach - super global citizenship qualities!!!!!
You are ALL making us and yourselves so proud - well done!

Finally, to clarify, the cake sale is on the last day of this term - FRIDAY 25th MAY at 3:30. Please bring fairy cakes or one large cake with a regal theme in honour of the royal wedding. DO NOT FEEL PRESSURED into creating "Bake Off" cakes - we would rather see cakes decorated by the children themselves! In order to make this fair for everyone and to reduce the pressure, we will NOT be making it a competition. We didn't make cakes to celebrate our WW2 topic this year so thought it would be a great opportunity to have fun baking while combining some numeracy measure work as well.

Year 4 beach clean becomes works of art!

We couldn't just throw away the rubbish we collected on our beach clean...................reduce, reuse, recycle! 15 minute small group art creations!

Out of such terrible pollution came......................

a mermaid!!!!!!! She's even got a glass of water to drink!!!

                                                       Drift wood and rope creations.................

                                                                 a jurassic scene

and an oceanic sea adventure story!!!!!

More to come from the other groups this week!
