Mathletics has set us a challenge competition! Over the next two
weeks we will be working towards helping each child achieve enough
points to get a certificate. If there is enough participation we might
stand a chance at winning one of the prizes on offer for our school!
The purpose of this challenge is to familiarise the children with the
new look Mathletics website. Please could you help out by using your
child's Mathletics log in with them at home? Or you could try the
Mathletics app on your tablet. There will be an opportunity for each
class to access mathletics at one playtime per week as well as through
their maths lessons and ICT time. Let's see how many points we can
earn! If your child is uncertain of their log in please ask a member of your child's class team.

Year 4 Wednesday 28th June 2017
We had a successful day filming today and cannot wait for the chance to watch the final piece!
Bruno is gigging in Tom Browns pub from 5pm this Friday, so do go along and support him. What a great opportunity Bruno! We can all say we went to your first gig, when you are famous!
4 children, who know who they are, are going for a visit to DMS tomorrow afternoon with Mrs. Seymour and Mrs. Scott so that they can report to the class what it is like! On Monday afternoon we will be having a year 4 assembly lead by Mr. Duffy and some ex PoW students.
Next Tuesday is our sports morning, we will be doing our skills first from 9:15 on the playground and our field races will begin at approximately 10:45, after a short break. Children will need FULL PE KIT and TRAINERS (hats and suncream if it is hot).
Next Wednesday is our swimming gala from 9:00 - 10:00 am and you are all invited to come and watch (and cheer), we are very lucky to also be having year 2 come and support us. We would ask that one of the large "chunks" of seating in the gallery are left for year 2 to all sit together, thank you. Children will need HAT, GOGGLES and 2 TOWELS for the gala please.
The Tuesday after next, 11th July, at 2:10pm you are invited to come to our Samba Concert, we have been lucky enough to have had 10 weeks of samba lessons via the Dorset Music Service and the children have thoroughly enjoyed it. They are also BRILLIANT, picking up the rhythms so quickly! Do come along for a taste of South America.
Of course that week there are also the sleepovers!
Just a few things to keep you all on your toes!
Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team.

Year 4 Friday 23rd June 2017
What an exciting week!
Stem week:
We began by learning about famous inventors and their inventions as well as the process they went through to get there! We have been learning about Roman numerals and problem solving/designing Roman towns and gardens with our numeracy skills, as well as 2d to 3d art. We celebrated Albert Einstein with some experiments and design activities, but the greatest success was all down to the children's inventions modelled at the inventions fair yesterday - what a HUGE success! Each and every invention was incredible and ingenious!!!!!!! Well done to you all for your enthusiasm, inquisitiveness, creativity and resilience! Brilliant!!!!!!!!
A GINORMOUS well done to Elsie, Isabelle, Hannah and Tilly who qualified for and competed at the final of the Year 4 Dorset Schools Gala yesterday - coming 3rd overall in their event.............OUT OF THE WHOLE OF DORSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! Well done girls - you made us really proud!
Next week we will be filming on Wednesday.
The week after that is a busy week - sports morning, swimming gala and transfer day!
I have announced to the children the theme of our Leavers Assembly this year - it will be The Oscars!!! Therefore, to give you plenty of warning, the children and yourselves are invited to dress in your best clothes (as at an award ceremony) - the assembly will start at 10 o'clock, and you will be asked to arrive and wait in the foyer at reception until the doors are open just before 10am. An invitation will come home soon with more details............so dust off your glad rags!!!!!!!
You will also be invited to stay for an "after show party" in the hall after the assembly for half an hour or so!
Any questions, do please pop in and ask us!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team!

Year 4 Monday 19th June 2017
This week is STEM week, we began learning about Roman Numerals in maths as well as creating optical illusion art by turning 2d images into 3d images, we also learned about inventors and inventions and discovered they too went through the same processes of trial and error that we had been through in designing and creating our own inventions for our home learning - they were quite inspirational to us!
A REMINDER: THURSDAY = DRESS AS A MAD SCIENTIST AND BRING IN YOUR HOME LEARNING INVENTION TO SHOW! Parents and grandparents are invited in from 2pm, in the school hall, to our inventions fair. We can't wait to see all the creative inventions! Bring them in as soon as they are ready!
Please make sure you ALL have a hat and suncream!
Thanks,
Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team

Saturday 10th June 2017 Year 4 exciting home learning project for STEM week
Year 4 Home Learning
To be in
by THURSDAY 22nd JUNE
Monday 19th June is STEM
themed week (Science Technology Engineering and Maths).
TASK: Design and MAKE a new
invention…………………..
· You could use the BAR tool we use in
class – take an existing item – how can you make it Bigger, could you Add
something to it or could you Replace something on it?
· You could invent something brand new.
· Think about why things are invented:
they are to help us in some way, or to make our lives easier in some
way……..could it be a kitchen gadget, a camping tool/gadget, something for
school, something for pets……..be as creative as you like!
(I’ve seen how imaginative you can be with our morning thinking skills
jobs!)
Your invention needs to be in school by the Thursday above because your
parents will be invited in to our…………….
“Year 4 Mad Scientists Inventions Fair”
where you will be demonstrating
your invention. On that day you will also be asked to come in to school dressed as a
“mad scientist” as we will be
celebrating Albert Einstein too! Tip: Google images – whacky inventionsFriday, 9 June 2017

Year 4 Thursday 8th June
I hope you all had a restful half term, ready for the rollercoaster ride that is the final few weeks!?
We began "show off " week this week with some reading comprehension and maths papers. The children have all approached them with great enthusiasm and resilience. We called it " show off " week because it is our chance to show just how brilliant we are! This is a great, fun way to look at these tests and the children have risen to the challenge - well done!
There are still a couple of museum/town house trip slips outstanding, for next Tuesday. It does say on the letter that the children should wear old play clothes on their bottom half, however we will be having our school photographs before we go, so please could they all wear SCHOOL UNIFORM, thank you! We also need one more volunteer to accompany us on Tuesday, please come and see me if you are able to help.
We launched our final topic yesterday and are approaching our learning as a collaborative project ; there is so much to learn about the Romans that this is a fun way to do it, whilst also learning valuable group work skills.
