Year 4 Monday 22nd May 2017.

We couldn't have asked for a better day..........the sun was shining, the fire burning........ a trip back in time..............
What a fantastic Celt day we had today - I am sure there were some very tired (dirty) children tonight!!!!!!!! We spent the day as Celts, doing drama, repairing the roundhouse and decorating it, cooking on the fire, making brooches and weaving - Boudicca sent us messages throughout the day and ultimately recruited us to help her fight the Romans!

I am sure you also heard about our superb rapping skills last week!!!!!!! Yes, we combined our poetry skills learned from Mr. William Shakespeare, with the story of Boudicca and created a rap based around the structure and some of the lyrics of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air!!!!!!! Impressive stuff!

We have a very exciting week, not only do we have our Samba Band lesson tomorrow, but our DT day on Friday!!!!!!

A HUUUUGE WELL DONE to the 10 children who represented the school in the Year 4 DASP swimming gala - we were VERY proud of you! We came second overall (with only 5 points in it for first place!), we even secured a place for the girls 4 x 25m freestyle relay in the finals (against the whole of Dorset!!!) Thank you, too, to our cheering squad - we definitely felt like olympians!

As there were only 2 people able to make the Jigsaw presentation this morning, I will run it again on the first Tuesday after half term, 9:00am in the hall.

The poems for the competition have been fantastic - tremendous effort has obviously been put into the home learning - well done! I can't wait to send them off!!!!!

Thank you once again for the excellent effort you all made today with your costumes - it really was great fun!

Year 4 Friday 12th May 2017 - upcoming events

Hello Everyone!

Thank you to all of you who were able to make the 2 information sessions last week, I hope they were useful!

We are fast approaching half term and there are already A LOT  of things to mention................

Next Tuesday afternoon 10 children have been selected to swim in the Year 4 DASP swimming gala at 1610, those children will bring a letter home tonight. Parents are invited to watch, it begins at 1pm and will last approximately 1 1/2 hours, there is a £1.50 spectators charge.

Next Thursday the children have been offered the opportunity to have some bicycle training at school, please fill out the permission slip and return it to Mr. Macbean.

This Saturday 13th May is the DMS open morning, see the times on your letter.

We have also just begun our 10 week musicianship programme provided by the Dorset Music Service. This year we are lucky enough to be learning Samba Band, so no instruments will be coming home. Throughout the 10 week programme myself and the drum teacher will be looking closely for a group of children who may be offered the opportunity of continuing with 2 terms of music lessons, free, at their new school - what an exciting opportunity! We are very lucky!

FYI:
On Monday 22nd May we will be having a Year 4 CELT themed day. Please could they come dressed as a CELT for that day (do not go out buying anything, I have spoken to the children about what they could use for a costume from items at home!) You may also like to start thinking about a Roman costume for the second half of the term!

On Friday 26th May (last day) we will be having our DT day, we will be walking to Tesco in the morning and shopping for our pizza and toppings. We will also need 3 volunteers to join us for the morning, so if you would like to join us, please do come in and ask! The children will each need to bring in £2 so that their topic table has enough money! This can be brought in in a named envelope before the day - thank you!!!!!!

I told you there was a lot going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to all of you who have kindly been writing letters to me giving permission for your child to walk to or from school, I cannot emphasise enough how important this is in terms of safe guarding and welfare. If you would like your child to begin walking to or from school as part of the process of building independence for next year, then please put in writing the days that they will be doing this!

Many thanks for all your support,

Mrs. Johnson and The Year 4 Team.
