Concerns over parking

As you are all aware, the school is fortunate to have a wide range of parking areas in its proximity. Due to the school's opening time, there is sufficient time for all parents and carers to access the  school grounds with their child in a safe manner.

Yet again it has come to the school's attention of what has been described as dangerous driving and also parking which is obstructing pedestrian walkways and crossings. This cannot continue.

We ask all members of our school community to follow the markings and ultimately think about road safety for our families too. Only a few months ago was there an accident outside a school in Weymouth.

The governing body are now looking into further action to be taken, the local Police team are also aware of this issue and are providing assistance with this matter.

Thank you

Year 4 Tuesday 28th March 2017

Firstly, a HUUUUUUGGGGEEEE well done to the 8 children who represented The Prince of Wales in a cross country competition today, we are very proud of you all - Elsie, Tilly, Mille, Ruby, Bruno, Harris, Luke and Mason! You showed tremendous determination and resilience. A special well done to Tilly who came 3rd!!!!!!! 2 children took a tumble but got back up and carried on too - well done, that showed great courage! Thank you also to all the supporters who came to cheer us on!

If any of you fancy a challenge there will be an opportunity, in a couple of months, to take part in a biathle competition at Leweston School (it will be on a Sunday), it involves a continuous run-swim-run (400m run, 40m swim, 400m run). Even if you feel like just having a go, that would be great - let me know, forms will follow shortly. You never know who might have a hidden talent out there that they didn't know they had, or who may find a new sport that they enjoy!!!!!

Our learning in literacy has been a combination of complex sentences, science and story writing - inspirational, as well as cross curricular!
In numeracy we have been carrying out an investigation to prove or disprove a statement I made to the class, this week we are deciding how to present our findings and moving on to reasoning and using our reasoning journals.

I wonder how many bags are packed yet for Hooke Court??????? A week tomorrow!!!!!!!! We are all SUPER excited and have had a few question and answer sessions to address any lingering worries!

See you all for the last swimming this term - also NO clubs next week!

Thank you,

Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team.

Year 4 Sunday 20th March 2017 - Last Week and Farm

I hope Year 4 have a had a VERY restful weekend (oh and a small treat!!!!!!!)😋

I agree wholeheartedly with everything Mrs. Mewett blogged! We were swelling with pride, both at the concert and during our assembly - the children continue to surprise us and inspire us daily. What an excellent example of what hard work, resilience and effort can achieve, and hopefully they felt the feeling of success and pride that comes as a reward following the pathway of a growth mindset (a part of our building learning powers focus - class dojo!).

This week we return to a more "normal" week of learning not forgetting, of course, our visit to the farm on Thursday (old play clothes and suitable foot wear - with a change of shoe for our return to school incase of mud!). I have had an offer of volunteers to accompany us, so thank you to those coming!

See you all tomorrow!

Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team.

Year 4 performed last night at the Year 4 DASP concert with confidence, capability and pride. They really excelled themselves and represented the school superbly well.

Thank you to you all for helping ensure your child was there to perform and be part of representing our school.

Not sure about you, my heart was pumping with pride for them at the back of the hall.
Well done Year 4! simply super!

Sustrans Big Pedal - School Assembly today

Sustrans “Big Pedal” – starting next week (lasting a fortnight)

Today in our school assembly we had a visit from Jonathan Dixon, our school’s Sustrans Officer. Sustrans is an organisation that promotes the use of Bicycles and Scooters.
Jonathan talked to the children about how to make sure their cycling helmets are fitted properly. He then introduced a special Sustrans event taking place over the next fortnight.
Next Monday sees the start of “The Big Pedal”.

We will be recording the number of journeys to and from school made on Bicycles and Scooters. The data is then used in a national and local competition to see which schools are able to get the greatest percentages of Bicycle and Scooter use during the fortnight.
In the last three years, we have done very well in this event and have been among the local prize-winners.
On Tuesday 21st March we are holding a “Bike It Breakfast”. All children that come to school by Bicycle or Scooter will be given a breakfast snack, fruit and a drink.

Year 4 - Last week + reminders! Sunday 12th March 2017

We had a busy week last week! We were really proud of Year 4 on Monday, for their behaviour and maturity during the collaborative writing project, where the children were all mixed up across the whole school. Year 4 helped to inspire the younger children with their writing - the outcomes are on display in the hall!

We finished our sonnets as well, which were incredibly impressive - especially as it was a challenging  objective! Well done - Mr. Shakespeare would be very proud!

We also continued to focus on time in numeracy and the children assessed themselves as being MUCH more confident! Our Stone age project research was very successful and I am looking forward to the results! The orienteering festival was successful too and the children got a real sense of middle school life, as we arrived during lunch play, they also now know their way round the school. Thank you to the Year 8 Sports Leaders.

Mrs. Trevorrow came in for our final concert rehearsal and complimented the children on their effort, resilience and beautiful singing! Well done..................
REMINDER: THIS THURSDAY 16TH MARCH, DROP OFF AT ST OSMUNDS SPORTS HALL BY 9:30 AM FOR THE REHEARSAL, WE WILL BE BACK AT SCHOOL FOR LUNCH. THEY NEED TO BE BACK AT ST OSMUNDS SPORTS HALL IN THE EVENING FOR 6PM - PLEASE COME AND WATCH, PLEASE CAN I ALSO ASK FOR THE REPLY SLIPS TO BE RETURNED IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY - THANKYOU!

Friday 17th March = Class assembly, 9:20 am!
Another busy week!!!!!!

We hope you had a good weekend,

Year 4 Friday 3rd March - learning and reminders!

What an astounding array of fantastic costumes yesterday! World Book Day was really brought to life - well done!!!! It really did bring the love of reading to life! The staff looked fabulous too - super effort from everyone! Well done to Millie for her "sleepy dwarf" outfit which one the year 4 entry!

We have been incredibly clever and successful with our sonnet writing too today - you have really impressed me Year 4, with your creativity and engagement - it just goes to prove that there really is no limit to what you can achieve, especially all those of you who really took on our class dojo focus of our learning powers, trying very hard to "get out of the dip" and move your learning on!!!!!!! (I know Mrs. Seymour was very impressed with your focus too!) Keep the good work!!!!!
This perseverance continued in your numeracy learning, where the time activities may have proved a challenge - but a challenge indeed - certainly no "giving up!!!!!"

We really enjoyed the theatre company today - it was very cleverly written (which we, as growing writers in year 4, really appreciated) whilst being hilarious at the same time!!!!!

A reminder that next Friday afternoon is our orienteering afternoon at DMS (tracksuits and trainers are recommended), and please can you return reply slips for the DASP singing concert in a fortnights time, if you haven't already done so!

Thankyou,

Have a fabulous weekend (dry I hope!)

Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team
