Year 4 Wednesday 25th January 2017 - Dates!

Good Evening,

Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the Hooke Court information afternoon. I do hope it was useful and, again, feel free to come in and ask any questions that come to mind following the meeting! The children enjoyed the presentation this afternoon and had MANY questions, we will continue to discuss it over the next couple of weeks as  I am sure there will be many more questions! As I said at the meeting, do take time to have a look on the website as it is very informative and exciting to look at!

It was brought to my attention that there was an error with a couple of dates that were in the news letter but did not match those on the calendar: Thursday 16th March is the Year 4 DASP music concert and the following day, Friday 17th March, is our class assembly - 9:20 in the school hall!!!!!! I do apologise and thank you to those people who quickly brought it to my attention - problem solved!!!!!!! Phew!!

If the children have been practising persuading you at home to do things, that is entirely my fault! But, it does illustrate that they are applying their literacy learning!!!!!! We have begun our learning about persuasive writing so be prepared for some very persuasive, convincing language!

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow,

Mrs. J and The Year 4 Team.

Year 4 Monday 23rd January - important - please read me!

Good evening,

Year 4 have been working very hard on their stories and, once I have marked them this week, they will be going on display, so please look out for the display next week!
Last week we learned about elements of shape and space in numeracy, this week we are having a strategy check followed by multi step problem solving!

I asked the children today to bring in, for NEXT MONDAY, a cereal box and a large bottle with no labels on (any shape - 1 litre size drinks ones, fabric conditioner or washing liquid containers - NOT TOO SMALL !!!!!) This is for our art project.

There will be a home learning project coming home this Friday, so do look at the home learning folders for this!!!!!!

A reminder that the Hooke Court Presentation will be taking place this Wednesday at 3:30 pm in the Year 4 classroom - year 4 children are welcome to come along but this is an opportunity for parents to
ask questions, we will be repeating this with the children in class so that they can ask all their questions!

Another reminder that we will be dressing up for World Book Day as our favourite fairy tale characters (not until Thursday 2nd March) but that leaves plenty of time to be as creative as you like - there will be a prize for the most creative costume in each year group!

If it is too icy in the morning, then running club will not take place!

See you all tomorrow,

Mrs. J and The Year 4 Team

Year 4 Sunday 8th Jan 2017.

Year 4 worked very hard last week, returning for the new year with a great, hardworking, positive attitude!

I set you the challenge of looking out for the misuse of apostrophes when you are out and about! We were very surprised by examples we found - we are far more clever than they are!!!!!!

In numeracy we learned formal written methods for multiplication and will continue this week, also using and applying those skills as well as reasoning work!

In science we began our  human biology topic, beginning in the mouth!!!!! Lots more learning and fun to come!

This coming week we will begin learning the songs that we will perform at the Year 4 DASP singing concert in March - I will confirm the dates for the concert this week so that you have plenty of notice. Mrs. Trevorrow is coming in to work with us on Thursday afternoon.

It is the Year 4 parent information session this Thursday, 9:00 in the hall - I look forward to seeing those of you that can make it!

Keep up the hard work and positive attitudes Year 4!!!!!

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team

Paper and card Recyling Assembly

Paper and Card Recycling Assembly
In our school assembly today I talked to the children about the importance of us trying to recycle things, with a particular reference to recycling paper and card.
We talked about how paper is made from trees and then looked at a series of photographs that show what happens to "waste" paper when it is recycled and sent to a Recycling Plant to be made into "new" paper.

I encouraged the children to try to bring in any unwanted Christmas Cards and put them into our Recycling box. We are trying to collect as many as possible and keep a tally of exactly how many we manage to get. It would be very useful if your cards could be tied with an elastic band and the total number written on the front to save us from having to count them individually.

Many Thanks,
Duncan MacBean

Year 4 Monday 2nd January 2017

A very Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!!!
I hope you all had a fun filled festive family time..........with some restful moments too!!!!!

Thank you all, once again for your kind cards and gifts, they were very thoughtful and special!

I am sure you will agree we have had an action packed first term with lots of learning, trips and visitors, as well as settling in to many new responsibilities and rising to new challenges and expectations.

I am very excited at the prospect of 2017 and all the continued learning, challenges and changes that we will experience along the way. It is a very special year for Year 4 and we hope to make it happy and memorable. I have no doubt that you will all continue to try your very best over the next two terms! There is a parents' information session next Thursday at 9:00 in the school hall for those of you who can make it!
We look forward to meeting Mrs. Seymour, the Learning Support Mentor from DMS, over the next couple of weeks when she will be with us weekly until the summer. We will let you know when she begins her visits should you wish to meet her.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow and wish you all a very happy, lucky and successful 2017!

Mrs. Johnson and the Year 4 Team.
