India
On Tuesday 29th March Teachers and TA's from Somerset and Reading and myself will be visiting Bangalore for 10 days on a School Study trip.
This will be following in Mr Farringtons footsteps and learning about farming, block printing and life in rural India. The visit will include spending time in an orphanage and school, gaining an insight to what its like to live and study in India.
For anyone interested I hope to be updating the Blog on a regular basis.

Tuesday 22nd March 2016
On Monday we were lucky enough to see the DMS dress rehearsal of the Jungle Book - thoroughly enjoyable and VERY inspiring - especially seeing Isabelle and Stan from last years Y4! Cant wait to see some of the definite budding actors/actresses, that we have at the moment, on the stage next year!
I have had a few children sign up for the Biathle on Sunday 15th May - plenty of time and space so please come in and sign up!
Congratulations to Megan and Genevieve who informed me that they played a county hockey match last week end and made it through to the regionals - a truly remarkable achievement and super high standard - well done!
I am looking forward to hearing from the ECO Team tomorrow, who will present to the class about their day out today! We are working very hard as a class to be ECO friendly - currently we are clearing litter form the school grounds on a weekly basis - collecting a staggering 2000 pieces - mostly from rubbish chucked over the hedges!!!!!
Well done to Martha and Freddie who represented the school as our Rights Respecting Schools Ambassadors - they told us about a National Initiative - Send a Friend to School - which DASP are supporting. Watch this space for the event later in the summer term!
We had a meeting about Hooke Court this afternoon where we answered lots of super questions, and reassured everyone with regards to any worries - which were sensibly and sensitively shared!
Enjoy packing during the holidays, as well as the Florida themed/inspired home learning!!!!!
Please do ALOT of weather dances so that we have 3 days of sunshine!!!!!!
Thank you for all the returned pink medical forms!

Sports Relief walk!
The entire school decided to take the Sports Relief
challenge today; the school’s ‘Children’s Voice’ decided that they too would like
to face a challenge, walking 1.75 miles from school to Maiden Castle and back.
Despite it being rather chilly and a Friday afternoon, the children did this in
super spirits and attitude. We were also pleased to see the Yr 4 children clearly
supporting their buddies from Reception class to complete the walk.
We would like to thank the super turn out of parents today, enabling
the children to complete this walk. The children have raised over £150 today
and should be extremely proud of their efforts and awareness of supporting such
a worthy charity.

Come on all you runners and swimmers! Competition time! Please read me!
Calling all Year 4s who would like to have a go at the South West Schools' Biathle Championships on 15th May 2016 at Leweston School, Sherborne, Dorset.
This is an individual event, however if there are more than 3 boys or girls in a category they will also make up a team, so the more of you that enter the better!!!!!
What is a Biathle I hear you ask? It is a continual event, comprising of, for Year 4, a 300m run straight in to a 40m swim followed straight into a final 300m run. It is a great challenge but also lots of fun and the children get a real sense of achievement from doing it - and may even enjoy it so much that they want to do more!!! Last year we did well, winning medals!!!!!
If you would like to enter, then please come and have a look at the team entry form and details and also ask me any questions! The absolute final closing date for the entries to be received is the 5th May!
Date for the diary - later on, there will be a National Schools' Biathle at Leweston, Sunday 19th June!
What great opportunities!!!!
Please come along, bring a picnic and make a day of it!
Mrs. J and the Year 4 Team.
Sorry!!!!!
Great apologies.......................I believe I blogged yesterday saying see you "tomorrow" for the transition meeting - I meant Thursday as per the letter and calendar!
Sorry! Typing too quickly and super busy - must slow down!!!!!!

A few reminders - important reminders! Tuesday 15th March
A few things............
I know we are all feeling a little tired and unwell in some cases! I would just like to say a HUGE well done for the superb effort ALL children are putting in at the moment - class assembly, concert performance, orienteering as well as their learning! Make sure you are all getting lots of sleep, eating lots of fruit and vegetables and drinking plenty in order to fight off any germs!!!! The holidays are soon upon us and I want you to enjoy a VERY WELL EARNED rest/break! I couldn't be more proud of you all, last Thursday, particularly, was a mammoth day but you took it all in your stride and confidently represented the school - well done!
Parents: don't forget tomorrow morning is the information morning run by Rowan Seymour and Julia Bishop in the school hall at 9:10 - a REALLY useful session which I hope you will all support and ask lots of questions!
Friday is sports relief (as per previous blog by Mrs. Thorpe) we need at least 3 volunteers to walk with us in order for us to be able to participate - any helpers????????
On Monday, we have been invited to go and watch the DMS Play Rehearsal at 9:30, so we will be leaving here promptly soon after 9 - please make sure you are here before 9 o'clock - thank you!
Reminder: Pink medical forms for Hooke Court! Please bring them in by Monday next week so that we can collate and check - thank you!
Thanks for all you support and lovely feed back from the concert!

walking to and from school
Can I clarify our 'Collection of children policy?' The school's document does have a phrase within this for Year 4 which is to help some children prepare for middle school if they live locally.
A few parents in consultation with the Head teacher through the latter part of the summer term have set up a system to allow a child to walk home if local.
Can I reiterate that this needs to be discussed with myself and it very much depends on the individual. It is NOT an agreement for everyone!
Please come and discuss any aspects with myself as they arise. Thank you, Mrs Mewett

Letters...
Thank you for all those parents who managed to make the information session for Hooke Court this week, I know the children are going to thoroughly enjoy the experience at Hooke.
I just wanted to ask all of you who have been having issues receiving letters to please pop by the office to double check that we hold the correct email address for yourselves? The summer term is nearly amongst us, Year 4 are particularly busy through this term and there will be lots of dates you will need early on to help plan!

help#greenhouse
Any spare help?!
You may have seen that the plastic bottle greenhouse is
starting to take shape, but we do not some people to come in and volunteer to
help us complete all sides. Then we will have a last collection of bottles to
create the roof. Please come in and speak to Mr Gibson R or Mrs Webb (Yr 2) if
you have a spare hour to help? We know the children will love using this
resource when completed!
POW - WOW!
A very proud moment for The Prince of Wales school tonight at St Osmunds school. The class excelled themselves with a super attitude, high level of concentration, and all were trying their best throughout with big smiles on their faces. I'm sure all parents who came along to support the class saw this as well. A magical moment captured.
Well done for all her hard work goes to Mrs Johnson and the Yr 4 team, for the weeks of practice, rehearsals and time taken to pull off the great performances.

Last Week and This week! 06/03/16
We had a great, exciting, productive and busy week during ECO week! We will be continuing to work on some of the projects we started and also spent some time thinking about the global citizen branch of our ECO school drivers - we were discussing the Syrian refugee crisis and wrote diaries from the perspective of one of the refugees - a very tricky thing to be able to do, putting yourself in someone elses shoes! They were very emotional and heart felt - powerful stuff!!
This week we will be carrying out final rehearsals for our concert this Thursday! If, after the letter, you are still unsure about the arrangements, please do come in and ask! Otherwise we will meet the children at the St Osmund's Community Sports Hall at 9:20 Thursday morning! In the afternoon we will be orienteering at DMS so TRAINERS AND COATS are also advisable for this - a VERY busy Thursday!
We will be beginning our Florida/Flotsam topic this week and a home learning project will come home on Friday with plenty of time given to plan, research/work on and produce! These will be expected in the week after Easter, on arrival back from Hooke Court!
See you all tomorrow
