Christmas jumpers on last day

It has come to our attention that tomorrow is causing some confusion as to whether children can wear jumpers or not. We are aware that tomorrow is a National charity day which highlights the wear of jumpers in support. We have chosen due to our three big fund raisers this term not to ask you to support this charity. We are also aware of many parents and children who wish to wear a jumper tomorrow and have been asking the class teams.

So, the simple is yes, jumpers can be worn, but we will not be collecting for charity. If you do wish to donate, then please use the website link highlighted in the press.

We apologise for the lateness and confusion, this event seems to have grown since last year, we will therefore be clearer next year with plenty of time to plan accordingly.

Also -Games are also allowed on the last day of term, named please and nothing expensive in case bits are lost!

Merry Christmas!

WELL DONE and a couple of reminders!

If you haven't had a chance yet to come and see our Christmas production, then please try and get there tomorrow! It is spectacular - what a talented group of children! The singing and acting have been superb - I do hope many of them will continue to join drama clubs as they move through their schooling! I am VERY proud of ALL of them - such great team work too! Well done!
They definitely deserve a rest as they have worked hard towards the performance, and a huge thank you too for all the fantastic costumes!

We also had our Christmas lunch today, which was delicious and it was great to see so many keen vegetable (sprouts!) eaters!!!!! Super manners too, well done!

Get a good nights rest for our final performance tomorrow! I told the children that they could bring in a game to play tomorrow (NO electronic games or swords etc) board games, card games, puzzles, toys are fine - DO NOT bring anything "precious" though and all games will be played inside, not being taken out at playtimes!

A reminder that Friday is our party day - SCHOOL UNIFORM to be worn please! There are still a few people to sign up for party food, the list is in our cloakroom (more sandwiches needed I think????)

Join us for carols too at 2:45 in the school hall!

A final HUGE thank you to the Year 3 and 4 Teams for all their hard work as "stage crew" and "set designers" - Super team effort!

DT competition results

We had excellent DT entries brought into school on Friday for the DT Christmas competition. A particularly good amount of entries from the Reception class and Year 1 class, so well done to these two classes.

All entries were super, lots of thoughts had been placed into designs, clearly child participation in all entries and all were able to attach to the Christmas tree and look eye catching.

What was also pleasing to see was the good sportsmanship from all children, never mind if they ‘won’, it was super to see such kind hearts and congratulations being given to the winner with handshakes and pats on backs!

Each class had a winner:

Reception: Philippa Hoskin

Yr 1: Thomas Grant

Yr 2: Odette Mistry-Dyer

Yr 3: Millie Goldstone

Yr 4: Alex Mistry-Dyer

Well done to everyone and their family helpers for participating in the competition. These are now on display in the foyer area near the ‘big’ tree.

Friday 18th December

POW Carols – everyone welcome, come and join us singing carols, to begin in hall from 2.45pm.

Musicians – please dust off those old instruments you may have once played (like myself) and come on in and join the parents/ community group, we gather around the piano and offer our sounds to compliment (?!) the pianist and the school singing. We have simple music to follow; sight reading is an easy level. The children love seeing the adults who turn up and show off an instrument! Any qus, please pop by the office and come and see me.

Hang in there everyone!!!!!!

Oh! No! We all seem to be going down with the "lurgy"!!!!!!!!! I told the children that they had my permission to stay wrapped up in bed all weekend, in order to be well for next week!!!! :-)
They have worked incredibly hard rehearsing towards the christmas production, I can't wait to see them perform in their costumes next week - it will be brilliant! Make sure you all have your tickets - KS2 11am in the school hall Tuesday - Thursday. (Monday is the dress rehearsal)

A reminder that it is our christmas party on Friday, make sure you have cancelled your hot dinner and please sign up on our party food list in the cloakroom - thank you! SCHOOL UNIFORM to be worn for the party!

There will be christmas carols as usual on Friday afternoon, which you are warmly welcomed to come along and join us - watch this space for timings!

I know that the children are all tired and a bit run down, but please could I ask you all to have a little chat at home reminding children of our class rights and responsibilities focusing on their behaviour and respect and consideration of others - both physically and with their words. This will emphasise the consistency between home and school and also the importance of our citizenship values. There have been a few instances of more physical games and upset feelings at playtimes. We will be reminding the children about appropriate games and the consideration of others. Thank you for your support in this matter.

We look forward to a fun packed, festive final week of the Autumn Term...........Where has that time gone????????

Musicians assembly - Monday 7th Dec

On Monday 7th December it is our Musicians Christmas assembly at 10am in the school hall. This assembly gives all children who are learning instruments the opportunity to perform to an audience. Your child should have received a letter if they have been chosen to play. They therefore need to remember their music and instrument too!

Sunday, 29 November 2015

Thank you!

I'm sure you'll all agree that the Tea Dance on Friday was a great success - it was clear that a tremendous amount of effort had gone into the cakes - OUTSTANDING! I hope you had great fun baking together, decorating and using your maths skills!!!!! A HUGE thank you to all parents and family that came along and supported us - there were so many of you, it was fantastic............it was also great to see you all joining in with the dancing!

I think we can expect to see Mr. Farrington on the next Strictly Come Dancing!!!!!!!

I would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Mrs. Howell, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Creed for all their hard work keeping you all topped up with drinks and cakes as well as staying behind after school to tidy up (thank you also to Mr. Farrington for serving too).

The children were also incredibly helpful, helping me to set up the hall, and in tidying away all the tables and chairs (with a couple of extremely helpful parents) - Great teamwork all round!

We will be beginning a fortnight of rehearsals from tomorrow - any costumes that are ready, please start sending them in, named - thank you.

DT: please make sure you have everything in school by Wednesday (if you didn't have it last week).

Finally, next Thursday (10th December) we will be going on the Journey To The Stable at the United Church in South Street, so that we do not have to rush back for lunch, we will be taking out packed lunches with us. Just a note in advance should you need to cancel a hot dinner or haven't already booked!

See you all tomorrow!

This week and tomorrow!

A HUGE well done to all those of you who brought in their DT Make Do and Mend items ready to use on Wednesday - we all made a great start (although needed reminding that we had to stick to our plan!!!!) If you didn't bring in yours then please bring in asap ready to begin making!!!!!

Today, we put our numeracy skills into practise by selecting a game/puzzle which required us to use our prior learning - great fun!

In literacy we met the rest of the crab family - Bob and Dave!!!!! Ask about subordinate clauses - continuing from Suzie and baby Alan!!!!!!!!!

There has been great enthusiasm with relation to the Christmas performance, the singing was excellent today and many have learned their words already! I hope there are no issues with costumes - please see me if you have any questions! Keep up the practising!!!!

I can't wait to see your cakes tomorrow - don't forget to come to school wearing your WW2 outfit! Please join us from 2:30 in the hall for a cuppa, piece of cake and a dance to celebrate the end of the war!!!!!!!

Dust off your dancing shoes!!!!!!!

Homelearning

The children worked very hard last week on their writing and produced some wonderful pieces during the Big Write, which was a great success. The children enjoyed writing for an extended period in a relaxed, peaceful environment with quiet music paying and an interactive candle to use as a focus in times of thinking! They actually requested not to finish and wanted to continue the following day!!!!!!!!

You will see that in the home learning folder, as well as the usual spellings, there was a cake baking home learning to be decorated with the ww2 theme - these need to be brought in on FRIDAY for the Tea Dance. Have great fun baking and decorating together - what numeracy can you use? Also, on WEDNESDAY, they need to bring in the items they need for their make do and mend DT project.

Costume requests and scripts will be coming home on Tuesday - I hope there has been a lot of singing practise already!!!!!!!!

Sunday, 15 November 2015

LOTS of information - please READ ME!!!!!!

I have a lot of thank yous to say today...........thank you to Mr. Scott who was our police officer on Tuesday, to Mr. Taylor who was our Judge on Thursday, to Mr. Gibson for being a very willing criminal and to all the adults in Year 4 who were suspects and questioned to within an inch of their lives!!!!!!!! A truly exciting week, learning all about our judicial system! Mr. Gibson was given 12 month suspended sentence and community service to provide all the staff in Year 4 with tea and biscuits daily!!!!!! :-)

Thank you too to Martha's Grandad and Great Grandad fro coming in on Wednesday to talk to us all about his experience during WW2 - its so valuable to be able to put our learning into context!
Thank you also to Mr. Ray last week who came in and challenged us to a quiz all about WW2 - a great opportunity to reflect upon our learning - Team England won!!!!!!

This week...............The children brought home maths home learning inter red folders on Friday, along with spellings!
On Tuesday we are off to the Tank Museum - thank you to all of you who offered to help, we only needed one adult so I  spoke to the volunteer last Friday. Children will need to bring their packed lunch, snack and drink in a small day bag as well as a coat.

On Wednesday we will be launching our first "Big Write", the children will bring home a sheet tomorrow night for them to discuss the task at home, they can record any exciting vocabulary you come up with and a few ideas. Big Write is a stimulating and inspiring activity carefully planned to enable the children to write independently in a tranquil atmosphere for an extended period of time, giving them the chance to apply all their writing skills that they have been working on - we will be starting the stimulus tomorrow where there will be a video clip and lots of opportunities to plan and discuss. the children are allowed to bring in a special pencil for the Big Write.

Next Friday (27th November) will be our Tea Dance - FYI the children will be set a home learning task for the weekend to make a cake or small cakes decorated with a ww2 theme. You are,of course, invited to come along and celebrate with us, have a cuppa and cake as well as a dance!

Exciting stuff - criminal activity............

Well, it certainly has been a VERY exciting themed week so far..........
Yesterday, we worked in partnership with Year 1 all morning and learned about Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppy - it was quite a moving session. We then used this learning, combined with learning about Japanese Haiku poems, to create our own Haiku poems - quite a challenge, just like doing a puzzle really.......ask the children about the structure of a Haiku poem! Good fun, Year 4 were brilliant role models for the Year 1 children.

Some of you may be aware that, this morning, we were greeted with rather a worrying situation......a crime had been committed involving our classroom!!!!!!
We were met by a police officer who carried out a preliminary investigation, there were many questions to be asked and lines of enquiry to be investigated, so the officer left us in order to process details and take some evidence and a finger print to be analysed. We were left to gather more evidence and build a picture of possible suspects, motives and to create some questions that we later asked the suspects. LOTS of thinking and reasoning skills involved, as well as deducing and inferring!!!!!!!!!

Following the questioning we were able to eliminate some members of staff, however as we were waiting to interview Mr. Gibson..............the police officer returned...........WITH MR. GIBSON...........IN HANDCUFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His house had been searched, and the finger print had been matched, Mr. Gibson tried very hard to evade our questions but tripped himself up on several occasions.................He was charged for the offence of breaking and entering and Wizardnapping!!!!!! Dumbledore was found in his cupboard along with our wand. Mr. Gibson was NOT very sorry and tried to escape on several occasions!!!!!!! His motive was to force Dumbledore to cast a spell that would make him in charge of the school!!!!!!!!!!!! He has been released on bail to appear at the Crown Court in Year 4 on Thursday 12th November...............................................

Upcoming items!

FYI...............

As part of our DT we are learning about Make Do and Mend. The children will be planning, designing and making a christmas decoration out of old items they will bring in from home - part of the brief will be that there will need to be an element of sewing in their piece. They will bring home details at the end of the week, ready to start next week.

I will endeavour to make decisions about casting for the christmas play by the end of the week so that you have plenty of time to organise costumes!

Thank you too to the 10+ volunteers who have our their names forward to help with our trip to Covington - so generous! As you know we already have a lot of adult support in our class and this trip does not require us to have a large quantity of helpers, however one or two will be useful, so to make it fair I will ask people from the list who have not been on a trip with the class yet. There will be more trips and opportunities over the year, so thank you again!!!!!!

Finally, we revisited our class charter this week as some of us needed reminding of appropriate behaviour and showing respect to ALL people they come into contact with as well as property belonging to other people. I would be grateful if you could also revisit this at home so that the children see how important it is and that we are all working together on these matters!

Thank you!

Mrs. Johnson and the Year 4 Team

Last week and this week!

Good evening,

Well, last week we had a very busy start and thank you to all those of you who were able to come to the consultation evenings!
We wrote some truly wonderful fireworks poems including such literary devices as personification, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile and alliteration!
Brilliant numeracy work as well working on written calculation strategies for subtraction.

This week is "Britishness week". Tomorrow we will be working with Year 1 collaboratively, based around Remembrance Day. We will also be learning all about the British Justice System this week .........watch this space!!!!!!!!

On Friday we are dressing up for Children in Need, children are to wear their home clothes but to incorporate some element of the Union Jack into their outfit, bringing in a donation for the collection too. There will be a cake sale after school on that day and, from Thursday, Year 4 Children's voice reps will be selling Children in Need merchandise.

This week there will be a certain "buzz" in the air as I will be holding auditions for the Christmas performance............exciting stuff!!!!!

See you all tomorrow!

Children in Need 2015

Children in Need is fast approaching. You should have all received a letter today explaining about Friday (13th).

The Children's Voice will be selling Children in Need merchandise from Monday in the area outside Year 1.

On Friday our dress up theme is 'Britishness'  (maybe they could dress up in the colours of our flag or famous British person)

Just like the country file team all children and staff at The Prince of Wales School will be partaking in a 1 mile ramble around our school grounds.

After school on Friday we will be having a cake sale. We would love to have lots of cakes (whole and cupcakes) and biscuits to sell. Please give all the cakes to your class teacher to store in the morning.

Christmas, here we come!!!!!!

Good evening everyone!

I hope you all had a great half term and are rested and full of energy ready for one of my most favourite times of the year..........Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (We will start thinking about the Christmas show during this week and discuss auditions so don't panic just yet!!!!)

We will be using our spellings from 2 weeks ago to practise/learn this week and don't forget your times tables - some are on 6's and some 7's!!!!!!!

Get ready for the next few weeks, there are a lot of exciting events, activities and learning opportunities lined up - keep your eyes peeled for events that parents can come along to as well!!!!!

Running club will start again NEXT week. For PE please can children have a warm tracksuit and trainers in their PE bags as we will still be doing games outside as long as it isn't wet!

Swimming as usual this week. Those of you, you know who you are, that are taking part in the rugby festival, don't forget that that is this Wednesday.

Thank you to all the children who accessed e-schools to ind their home learning - some have managed to e-mail attachments to me, which is great as I can reply with your feedback, but if you have a hard copy that is fine too!

I look forward to meeting all your mums and dads at parents evenings this week!

Award assembly 22.10.15

Today we had our first of the year ‘Award assembly’. This is the assembly when we ask teachers and their teams to select children who they think have worked particularly hard during this first part of the year in subject areas; writing, reading, maths, ICT, Creative arts, PE and displaying our Citizenship qualities.  Some awards have a certificate and a trophy to keep for half a term! You may have found one of these when you got home!

For our Reception parents; the awards can stay at home with your child until we send a letter inviting it back in for our next ‘Award assembly’.

Happy half term everyone, we will see you all back on Tuesday 3rd November!

Assembly and Nothe Fort.

Wowsers!!!!! I'm sure you'll all agree the class assembly today was fantastic - well done Year 4, you were confident, clear, showed excellent acting skills and humour too!!!!!! I was VERY proud of each and every one of you!!!!!!!!!

Next Tuesday is our trip to Nothe Fort - you will need to come to school in your WW2 evacuee costume (make sure it is WARM) - don't forget your packed lunch and drink, you were given an identity tag which you will need to fill out and wear too, also bring your gas mask box as well!!!!!
Please could any parents that have spoken to me about going on the trip pop in on Monday as I may not need all of you to accompany us!

Next Thursday morning is our trip to the farm, you will need WARM WATERPROOF play clothes, wellies and coats.

Finally, don't forget there is NO SCHOOL next Friday, so spellings and times tables need to be learnt for next Thursday!!!!!!!!!

Have a great, well earned week end!

The VERY proud Year 4 team! :-)

Class Assembly

Year 4 did us proud on Friday during the Harvest cafe - well done, lots of positive comments about you all!!!!

This Friday is our class assembly - 9:20 in the school hall! Unless the children say otherwise, they will need to bring in their WW2 evacuee costume, in a named bag BEFORE Friday - so that we can check everything is present!!!!!

Last week we worked on a collaborative learning project to create a Green Procurement Policy, this was towards our Green Flag status! The children thoroughly enjoyed this and it was lovely to see them all working together with great enthusiasm, encouragement, team work, positivity and maturity - totally independently and some natural leaders began to appear!

I look forward to seeing you at running club tomorrow - still spaces left for anyone that would like to join us - the benefits are fantastic...........fitness, focus ready for learning, raised self esteem and positivity!!!!!!!!

Home Learning!

Celebration, after celebration, after celebration!!!!!! The last few days have seen some amazing pieces of home learning brought in, from WW2 projects (bread and butter pudding, models, animations, posters............), to Harvest poems and home baked bread (which we were able to sample - scrumptious!)

Today, Mr. Farrington taught us all about Indian farming in Silvepura, we deduced similarities and differences, putting our powerpoint skills into practise to express our learning! Super work!

Please ask the children to explain what a main clause, a subordinate clause and a fronted adverbial phrase is (remind them of Baby Alan crab and Mummy Suzie crab!!!!!!) we have been learning about them and I hope to see them being applied to writing!!!!!!!

In art we have been developing painting skills in the style of Georges Seurat for our Harvest art - pointilism.

In numeracy we are developing our learning about time.

We hope to see you at the Harvest assembly and/or the Harvest cafe on Friday - children are able to bring in a small amount of money on Friday in order to buy something from the cafe.

Finally, if you use the play trail after school, please could you ensure your children are supervised and in sight, this is because there are often children playing unsupervised behind our classroom and unfortunately, more recently, they have been playing with sticks from the garden area and there have been some injuries as a result.

Happy swimming tomorrow!

Mrs. Johnson and the Year 4 Team.

Monday, 28 September 2015

Thank you!

I hope you have all been busying away on your WW2 home learning - I can't wait to see them!

Today we learned about the Dam Busters! Please ask about it, we then applied our knowledge to our ongoing WW2 powerpoint - they look very impressive (great computing skills being applied too!)

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the Mistry-Dyer family, last week we had Alex's Grandma come in to talk to us about her experiences and stories from WW2. The following day, Mrs. Mistry-Dyer taught us all about how Hindus pray at home - we made our own Pujas. It was a really very special couple of days, thank you!

This week we will be finishing our evacuee stories, I am looking forward to reading them! In numeracy we are learning to use and apply formal written methods of calculation.

A reminder about costumes for the Nothe Fort trip - Mrs. Creed has been collecting boxes for gas masks, so if you are in need of one, please ask - we have quite a pile!

Harvest week is upon us, you are welcome to come to the assembly next Friday and to join us for the Harvest cafe in the afternoon - happy bread baking!

Home Learning for the school!

Home Learning  - Harvest celebration

(week commencing Monday 5th October)

During the week of Monday 5th October as usual we have planned opportunities throughout the week where the children learn about: food and where it comes from, visits to Maiden Castle farm, creating art pieces, cooking, thinking about seasonal food, creating goodies for the Harvest café using our orchard goodies, looking at India farming and of course the reason behind Harvest itself!

We thought this year we would have a ‘Bake off’ format to the week as the ‘Great British Bake off’ has been inspiring staff as well as the nation!

So, if your child wishes to, the Home Learning for the children is to…

Create their own bread and bring into school through the week leading up to our Harvest celebration! The class will taste it and talk about how it was made.

Everyone will need to share the ingredients and how they made their bread (write down or be able to talk about).

‘Bread’ products are wide and varied across the world, so experiment, create!

Through the week each class has also been set the challenge of creating a ‘master piece!’

These will be displayed outside of the hall for our Harvest celebration.

We will have our very own ‘Mary and Paul’ to taste each class’s efforts and decide upon a winner! Be ready to ask your child all about it!

Home learning and class charter reminder!

I hope you've all had some creative brain waves for your WW2 inspired project home learning!? I can't wait to see them!

Thanks to all of you that made it to the information session, it was lovely to see so many of you there!

The children are working hard at their spellings and did very well on Friday, likewise with their times tables! Well done - keep up the hard work, effort and enthusiasm!

We finished our poems for the poetry competition, some of us used personification and onomatopoeia!!!!!!!! (Ask them to tell you what they mean!) We will be embarking on WW2 inspired drama leading into story writing from tomorrow.

We began learning about negative numbers today - see if they can explain to you what they are!

Please keep hunting for WOW words at home, simply jot them down with the meaning and bring it in!

Don't forget to login to mathletics for some valuable mental maths work!

We would appreciate it if you could discuss our class charter again (listed a few blogs ago), some of us need reminding of the class rights and responsibilities that were agreed to, particularly with regards to putting in effort to learning, trying our best and not distracting others and secondly, friendship (being happy and making others happy!!!!!)

Finally, a HUGE well done to those 13 children who applied for the job of Playtime Warden, attended an interview and, due to their mature and enthusiastic responses, were successful in getting the job!!!! They will take part in training this week before beginning their role - you should be very proud! I am thrilled and know you will do an excellent job!

costume pre-warning!

It's great to see all the home learning coming in - apologies for the missing numeracy, we forgot to put it in!!!!!!

The children have really impressed me with their grammar skills this week. Over the next couple of days we will be composing autumnal poems for a competition so I can't wait to see how creative they all are!!!!

We had great fun in French yesterday learning some conversational language as well as the French alphabet, spelling out our own names!

I look forward to seeing you all at the Year 4 parents information session tomorrow morning in the school hall at 9:00 am.

Pre-warning: for our trip to the Nothe Fort and the Tank Museum we will be dressing up as evacuees - please don't feel you need to go buying costumes, as I'm sure if you google images you will see that school skirt/pinafore/shorts are good with a cardigan/jumper/tank top.........knee length socks and a flat cap for boys, hair ribbons for girls are perfect! They will also need to make a gas mask box to bring in for the trip (cat food boxes or washing tablet boxes are ideal for this, cover it in brown paper, add string and gas mask box instructions). Any questions, please pop in and ask!

Some brilliant play time warden letters of application have arrived on my desk, interviews will begin tomorrow!!!!!

Keep up the good work with learning your spellings and timetables!

First swim!

A great first swim today, with many children showing great bravery and trying their best! Well done!

I have also been very impressed at the home learning that has been handed in already - very creative!

Our World War 2 topic has fired our enthusiasm and many children have been telling us family stories with a link to the topic. Yesterday we began learning the Cha Cha, ready for our VE Day Tea Dance in November - ask for a demonstration at home and you can all cha cha round the house!

A big well done to those children who are writing their reading books into their diaries and thank you for any messages - we are checking them on a daily basis and responding to any comments - I will write in a set of diaries for one house a day!

It has also been lovely to award several citizenship stickers over the past couple of days to children fro being polite, considerate and caring - keep it up!

Posters have appeared in and around our classroom advertising for the position of a playtime warden - there is a job description attached and the children have been asked to apply to myself in writing if they are interested........interviews will take place next week. We need as many of you as possible!

The children began harvesting our crops of wheat and barley this afternoon and, I believe, they worked very hard, so I am looking forward to seeing the results tomorrow!

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Good night!

Class charter - please read and discuss me!

Our class charter agreement discussed and written by Year 4.

We have the right to learn and to talk, we have the responsibility to show respect to others (adults and children) by listening and trying our best.

We have the right to smile and be happy in who we are,  we have the responsibility to make others happy.

We have the right to be safe, we have the responsibility to look after ourselves and others.

We have the right to use equipment, we have the responsibility to share and take care (of it).

We have the right to outside learning, we have the responsibility to be sensible.

These rights and responsibilities are very important and will ensure we have a happy, safe and successful learning environment. Please read them at home and discuss them, thinking about how you will try hard to keep this agreement.

Spells and spelling!

Yet ANOTHER excellent day - well done Year 4!!!!!!!!!!
Today, we undertook some top secret learning all about our brains (I will let the children tell you all about it............... :-) )

We gave out our new Home School Diaries today, I have asked the children to record the books they read in it, as well as any achievements and successes (we love to hear about those!!!!!). There is a space to record spellings, although it may not be big enough for some lists so we decided that you could either record your whole list or just the tricky ones! We are going to get into a routine of placing our diaries open on our topic places each morning so that I can scan round and read any messages from home and I can also write in them as well. We agreed that it would be best to keep our diaries in our book bags so that they are remembered daily - this is also great practise for next year when their diaries need to used in most lessons!

Spellings will begin next week, they will be sent home on Friday to be learnt by the following Friday when they will be tested, they will also be expected to learn timetables on a weekly basis as well.
Home Learning was sent home tonight, the children have a wallet to keep their home learning in so that you will see the marking the following week. This week they have been asked to conjure up a spell for a perfect Year 4. I would ask that they spend approximately half an hour on this task and that you encourage neat handwriting and presentation as well as challenging themselves to use exciting language.

PE kits need to be in next week please and swimming starts on Wednesday where the children can either meet at the pool for 8:45 or meet at school ready to walk up at 8:30. PE will be inside on a Tuesday and outside, weather permitting on a Friday. Because we will be outside on Fridays then the children may have tracksuit bottoms and trainers to wear for those sessions - depending on time, because the lesson is at the end of the day, we may send them home in their PE kits some Fridays.

Please see the next blog for our new, hot off the press, Class Charter...............

Welcome to Year 4!

A VERY warm welcome to Year 4! It was so lovely to see so many of you this morning - lots of friendly, smily faces!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, in fact, I know you did because the children told us all about them this morning!!!!!!!

Well, what a fantastic first day..............everyone was enthusiastic and demonstrated excellent listening skills and superb attitudes and behaviour!!! I sense a brilliant year ahead!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was a lot of listening and discussion throughout the day based around our class, the classroom, the teachers, culminating in agreeing on our very important class charter. This is an essential part to the beginning of every school year because it generates lots of discussion and thinking about why we are at school, what we expect from school and how we treat other people as well as the responsibilities that go along with these rights. They underpin the ethos in the classroom and establish a common agreement for the whole year, running nicely alongside the DASP citizenship caterpillars. I will be sending home and blogging a copy of the charter that the children created so that you can discuss it at home and refer to it throughout the year, demonstrating a 3 way partnership to the children between themselves, home and school.

We also met our buddies today which was very successful and I was extremely proud of each and every child in Year 4, they were kind, caring, friendly, understanding and good role models - Well done!!!!!!!

Thank you for a fantastic first day Year 4, I am really looking forward to tomorrow - I hope you are too!!!!

Remember Year 4, we discussed a step towards developing independence this year would be to see how many of you are able to come into class on their own and organise themselves in the morning - You can do it!!!!!!
(Mums and Dads, of course I am available if you need to see me or make an appointment to see me, and I will always be outside at the end of the day!)

We ended the day with lots of fun, but on a serious note (as there's no way I could have said it at school - once I start crying there would be no stopping me!!!!!!!), from the bottom of my heart, I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching you, each and every one of you are amazing and I love all of you - you will hold a VERY special place in my heart forever!!!!!
You all have so many gifts and talents and will continue to shine and sparkle your way through life.................remember too, that we will always be here if you ever need us - just because you have gone, it doesn't mean we forget you or don't care - we will always look forward to hearing how you are doing, care about your future and want to help if we can.

Please think back to Mr. Farrington's message to you all this morning - never give up and stay strong!!!!!!!!
