Home Learning 29th June 2012
Next week is the start of our Olympic Fortnight. You can choose one of the following activities to complete for home learning:
1. I would like you to find out about a British Olympian or Paralympian that you admire. Maybe it is the person who has run the fastest or jumped the highest, maybe it is someone from Dorset just like you or maybe it is someone who has been the most determined. The pictures below might give you some ideas. Present your work as a fact file, include a picture and lots of interesting facts.
Please see home learning sheet for photos.
2. We have been learning in Maths about how to present information in a bar chart. Can you present all or some of the following information about Olympic and Paralympic medals 2008 in a bar chart?
Please see home learning sheet for data.
Wake and Shake
Also next week and the week after year 4 will be responsible for running wake and shake sessions in the school hall for each of the other classes. The wake and shake session will be from 8.45 until 9.00 in the school hall. For the day that your child is running the session you are welcome to bring them to school from 8.30am so that they can prepare their music and practise their moves!

Missing black hood
Thank you

Home Learning 22nd June 2012
Next week we are going to be doing some filming with Mr Scott from Thomas Hardye School. In order for us to complete the film each child will require a few props and a costume. The overall outcome of the film will remain top secret until leaver’s assembly on Friday 20th July, but you may gather a few clues from the list of things we need below:
Each child will need an Olympian costume (an athlete, weight lifter, horse rider, sailor, etc – the costume that they wore earlier this year in one of our Olympic themed weeks would be ideal)
An alternative bright or silly costume (wigs, feather bowers, robots, morph suits, Hawiian clothes, etc)
We will also need a small number of the following (if you have any)…
A big black curly wig.
Some moustaches.
Blow up guitars.
Blow up trophies.
Union Flags.
White vests.
We will be filming the scenes on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. So please send your child with a costume in a named bag for these days.
Also…
This week we have been thinking about and writing down our memories from over the years at school. Why not have a reminiscing session over the weekend and write down any extra memories that we may have missed out? Please bring them back in as soon as you can!

Reminder - Home Learning Competition!
Just a quick reminder that Mr. Farrington, Miss. Johnson and Mr. Spracklen would like to see some fantastic examples of ‘Home Learning’ captured in a photograph. We are thinking art projects, work on Mathletics, spelling practice, visits to museums, reading, having a discussion on SWGfL Merlin, doing some research and much more! The opportunities are endless and special attention will be given to those entries that think creatively. As a prize we hope to feature the best images on a newly designed home learning booklet that all pupils will be using in September. Therefore, by submitting your photographs to the competition you are agreeing that they can be used for this purpose. All competition entries should be sent by email to the school office (office@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk) no later than 3.30pm on Friday 6th July, 2012. Any questions please see Mr. Spracklen or Miss. Johnson. Thank you for your continued support, Mr. Spracklen

Home Learning 15th June and Dorchester Museum Trip
Over the last few weeks we have been working on developing skills for effective learning. The children will be bringing home some worksheets to complete. The first worksheet concentrates on how children can make themselves and others feel good and being positive. The second sheet introduces next Friday’s lessons about children’s values. Please help your children to complete these sheets, it might lead to some interesting discussions!
Next Friday 22nd June we will be going on a trip to Dorchester Museum and The Roman Town House. We have been lucky enough to get a workshop with the Museum staff in both locations and so will be linking the Iron Age work we have already done with learning about the Roman invasion and how Romans settled in Britain. For this trip the children will need a waterproof coat (probably), or sun cream and a hat (unlikely) as well as a packed lunch and plenty to drink. We have chosen to use a coach for this trip instead of walking so that we can fit more into our day. Please remember to return your child’s permission slip with a voluntary contribution.
