Home learning – 24th February 2012
Next week is Global Awareness Week. We have lots of exciting activities planned. I would like to start the week thinking about our own cultural heritage. We are all multicultural people, but I would like to explore where in the UK and further afield that we have friends and family. Using the maps attached, I would like you to mark the places where you, your family and your closest friends live.
We will be having lots of visitors in school next week. On Tuesday we will be making masks with Kwame, in order to do this we need 4 pint and 6 pint milk bottles. Please bring in your rinsed empties on Monday.
We will also be looking at fair trade in Cotton with another visitor. As we will be having a fashion show I would like the children to come in NON SCHOOL UNIFORM on Tuesday.
Finally, we are busy preparing for a music and dance festival which will be held at Thomas Hardye School later in March. For this we are busy learning some wonderful songs. I have included the words on the back of this sheet. Please help your child to read them, (they may even be able to sing some of them). Also it would be lovely to have them written out and illustrated beautifully to display in the classroom.

Plastic bottles.
Over the next few weeks we will be creating Greek Vases out of recycled materials. We are looking for plastic drinks bottles of various sizes which we can adapt to our own design. Please bring in clean, empty bottles straight after the holidays.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Milk Bottles
During Global Awareness Week (Week beginning 27th February) we will be taking part in a Junk Art workshop. For this we will require plastic milk bottles, 4 pint and 6 pint especially! Please bring in washed out bottles next week.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Roundhouse fun – This week we have spent a lot of time learning outside. Have a look at the picture I gave you for homework and write a paragraph about it.
• Say what is happening in the photo.
• Explain what you enjoyed doing most.
• Describe what you learned.
• What did you achieve?

Roundhouse work
Despite the cold weather seriously affecting our work on Wednesday, Years 3 and 4 have successfully:
demolished an old structure and old clay oven
constructed two new wattle fences
built and installed a new door for the roundhouse
created a Swedish logpile
mixed clay, dried grass and water for a daub to make a new clay oven
smashed up old bricks into powder to add to the daub
constructed a willow dome over which the daub will be applied
We hope that when completed, we can use the clay oven to bake bread and cook our own pizzas!
Well done to all the children, thanks to parents who helped and to our friends from Cranborne!

No Lunchtime Football Club on Wednesday 8th Feb
Due to our roundhouse work next week, I have decided to cancel football club next Wednesday 8.2.12. From previous experience, it's too much changing in one day!

Roundhouse work
Children in Year 4 will be helping in the roundhouse area every day next week. They will need to bring a set warm outdoor clothes and wellies! We aim to make a new fence to replace one that has rotted away, a new door for the roundhouse and a new clay oven where we can bake bread and pizza!
The children will be working in small groups of 10 at a time under the guidance of our friends from Cranborne Ancient Technology Centre. Parents are welcome to come along and help, but please wrap up warm!

Homework 3rd February
Homework – 3rd February 2011
This week I would like you to research Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses. As you know, there were many! But if you were an Ancient Greek God or Goddess, which would you be? Can you draw a picture of your favourite God or Goddess? Maybe you could do something inventive with ICT and paste your head and shoulders onto a statue of the God or Goddess of your choice. Remember to find out what they were the God or Goddess of, maybe you could choose the one that is most like you! Write down the name of your God or Goddess and why you have chosen them.
Don’t forget you have some spellings to learn for Monday, and next week I will be checking the 11 and 7 x tables on Wednesday.
Next week you will also need to bring in warm play clothes, wellingtons and waterproofs so that you can work on the roundhouse site. Please bring these in a bag and wear your uniform to school.
